Pakistan Era explains the money side of daily life: petrol and electricity prices, tax and FBR rules, banking, remittances, inflation and what the latest IMF or State Bank decision means for a household budget.
We are hiring a business and economy journalist who works from the data itself, the State Bank's releases, FBR circulars, PBS price surveys and IMF documents, and writes it up so any reader can follow.
What you will do
- Report economic news the day it is released: SBP policy rate, reserves, remittances, inflation, petrol and power tariffs.
- Write explainers and guides on tax filing, withholding taxes, banking charges, savings and investment products.
- Read primary documents, including SBP circulars, FBR notifications, NEPRA decisions and IMF staff reports, and quote them accurately.
- Build simple tables and charts from official data, and show the working when a figure is our own calculation.
- Distinguish proposals, approvals and notified measures, and correct errors openly.
What we are looking for
- A master's degree (MS, MPhil, MA or MBA) in Journalism, Economics, Finance, Business or a related field.
- At least 2 years of published business, economy or finance reporting. Please share links.
- Excellent written English. Working Urdu is expected.
- Confidence with numbers: percentages, year-on-year changes and reading financial tables.
- A working knowledge of Pakistan's tax system, banking and the main economic institutions.
- A verification-first approach and the discipline to separate fact from forecast.
Good to have
- Experience with spreadsheets and data visualisation.
- Knowledge of the Income Tax Ordinance or NEPRA's consumer rules.
- Contacts in banking, tax practice or economic research.
