Pakistan Era is hiring an education journalist. Students and parents come to us for answers they can act on: when an admission closes, whether a scholarship is real, how an exam result is checked, and what a policy change means for them.
You will own the education beat, from board results and university admissions to HEC policy and scholarships abroad, with every deadline and fee read on the responsible institution's own page.
What you will do
- Report education news: board results, HEC and provincial policy, entry tests such as MDCAT and ECAT, and changes to admissions and fees.
- Write practical guides on admissions, scholarships, degree attestation and studying abroad, with the real deadline and the official portal.
- Verify dates, eligibility and fees at the source, and say plainly when something could not be confirmed.
- Separate announcements from notified decisions, and federal from provincial responsibility.
- Keep evergreen guides current each admission cycle, and publish corrections openly.
- Flag scams: fake scholarships, unregistered agents and lookalike portals.
What we are looking for
- A master's degree (MS, MPhil or MA) in Journalism, Mass Communication, Education or a related field.
- At least 2 years of published reporting or writing, preferably on education, youth or public policy. Please share links.
- Excellent written English. Working Urdu is expected.
- A good working knowledge of Pakistan's education system: boards, HEC, provincial departments and universities.
- A verification-first approach and comfort reading notifications, prospectuses and policy documents.
- Able to explain complicated rules in short, simple sentences.
Good to have
- Experience covering scholarships and study abroad, or working with students.
- Basic SEO and experience with a CMS.
- Contacts in universities, boards or education departments.
