GT Road Upgrade Announced with Motorway Style Expansion
GT Road is now having major upgrades, such as a major three-lane carriageway following the same pattern of motorways. Federal Minister of Communication Abdul Aleem Khan chaired a high-level meeting in which the decision was taken to rebuild and renovate the GT Road like it was done for the motorways because of heavy flow of traffic using this route to bring relief to the natives and passengers.

Importance of GT Road: Pakistan to Torkham Trade Route
So Grand Trunk Road stretches from Pakistan to Torkham and is known to be Pakistan longest national highway and an important trade route. Many ministries, such as Communication and Economic Affairs Division, have been involved in presenting and discussing the recommendations for restoring and expanding it.

National Highway Authority (NHA) has been working on a plan to initiate the work. The report shows that the construction will be done in two phases. Officials working with this project have confirmed that the first phase of construction will be done in this current year.
