To track a Banking Mohtasib complaint, open bankingmohtasib.gov.pk, click "Track Complaint", and type your complaint number, written as the year, a dash and a serial, like the site's own example 2022-1025. If you lost it, click "Forget Complaint no#" and search with your CNIC and mobile number instead. Below we cover both searches, the two month target, the 40 days a bank gets to pay, and what to do if your status has stalled.

The Banking Mohtasib Pakistan (BMP) settles disputes between customers and scheduled banks: wrong deductions, failed transfers, ATM cash not dispensed, delays and poor service. Its own counter showed 27,698 complaints received in 2026 and 3,627 still in progress as of 30 September 2026. We read the tracking box, the FAQ, the review page and the contacts page on 24 October 2026.

Two ways to track a Banking Mohtasib complaint online

The Track Complaint box on the Banking Mohtasib home page searches by complaint number. Its "Forget Complaint no#" link opens a second search by CNIC and mobile number. Both are free and need no account or login.

SearchWhat you typeWhen to use it
By complaint numberThe number from your acknowledgement, in the form year-serialYou have the SMS or letter
Forget Complaint no#Your CNIC and the mobile number on the complaintYou lost the number
Phone, Karachi Secretariat+92 21 99217334Neither search shows a result
Nearest regional officeComplaint number or CNICYou want to ask in person

The sample result on the site reads "Your compliant has been assigned a number 2022-1025 on 6-oct-2022". So the number is the year, a dash and a serial. Type it with the dash.

Banking Mohtasib complaint tracking by complaint number or by CNIC and mobile number

Track your complaint in 5 steps

Open the site, click Track Complaint, enter the number with its dash, and read the status and details line. If you lost the number, use the CNIC and mobile search with the same mobile you gave on the complaint form.

  1. Open bankingmohtasib.gov.pk on a phone or computer.
  2. Click "Track Complaint" in the Lodge Complaint section, or "Check Status of Complaint" under Our Services.
  3. Type the complaint number with its dash, in the same form as the example 2022-1025, and search.
  4. If you do not have the number, click "Forget Complaint no#", type your 13 digit CNIC and your mobile number, and search.
  5. Read the Complaint Status and Details columns. Note the date and keep a screenshot.

Use the mobile number you wrote on the complaint form. A different number, even your own second SIM, will not match.

The Banking Mohtasib aims to resolve a complaint in 2 months

The Banking Mohtasib says it tries to resolve complaints within two months, though complex cases can take longer. Once an order is passed, the bank has 30 days to seek a review and must implement the decision within 40 days.

StageTime
Write to your bank first and wait for its reply45 days
Then lodge with the Banking MohtasibWithin the next 45 days
Target to resolve your complaint2 months
Review petition by either side30 days, decided in 45 days
Bank implements the orderWithin 40 days of the order
Representation to the President30 days, decided in 90 days

If the bank sends you a decline letter, you do not have to wait the 45 days. The FAQ says you can file at once. The BMP also says most cases are settled by mediation between you and the bank, and formal hearings are held only when needed, at the office nearest to you.

Banking Mohtasib complaint timeline: 45 days, 2 months target, 40 days to implement

What the status means for your money

A complaint found genuine goes to mediation, and if that fails, the Banking Mohtasib can order the bank to fix the problem or make good your loss. There is no ceiling on the amount, but compensation covers actual loss, not mental agony.

The FAQ says the decision is binding on banks. If no review is filed within 30 days, it becomes final. A representation to the President suspends the order for 60 days, so an order you won may not be paid during that time.

Know the limits before you wait on a status. The Banking Mohtasib cannot order a bank to give you a loan or a credit card, waive markup, or change its schedule of charges. It also cannot take a case pending in court or already decided by the State Bank.

A complaint about a microfinance bank or a mobile wallet sits elsewhere. Those routes are explained in microfinance bank and wallet complaints to the SBP.

When tracking shows nothing or the case stalls

If neither search returns a result, call the Karachi Secretariat on +92 21 99217334, where complaint handling is centralised. If your complaint is older than two months with no movement, ask which advisor holds it and when a hearing is planned.

  • Lodged directly without writing to the bank first. The FAQ calls this a mandatory requirement. Your complaint may have been returned. Write to the bank, wait 45 days, then file again.
  • Different mobile number. The CNIC search will not match. Call the Secretariat.
  • Sent through a relative. Complaints must be signed by the complainant unless a notarised power of attorney is attached.
  • Case also filed in court. The Banking Mohtasib stops having jurisdiction. Tell the office if you went to court.

The 2026 numbers on the Banking Mohtasib site do not match

The site shows two different 2026 totals. Its counter says 27,698 complaints received and 24,071 disposed of by 30 September 2026. Its news line says 29,001 complaints were disposed of in the same nine months, with Rs 1.2 billion decided for complainants.

The gap may come from cases carried over from 2025, but the site does not say. Either way, it shows that most complaints do reach a result. For the first step, writing to your bank and keeping proof, see the Banking Mohtasib complaint guide.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 24 October 2026. We read the Banking Mohtasib home page with its Track Complaint box, the Procedure of Lodging Complaint page, the FAQ, the Review or Representation page and the Contact Us page on that date. All time limits, phone numbers and 2026 figures come from those pages. We did not run a search with a real complaint number or CNIC, so we have not seen a live result screen. The two different 2026 totals are as printed on the site.
