Check a Hospital Is PMDC Approved for Your House Job: 59 Stand-Alone Hospitals Listed
A house job counts for PMDC registration only in an approved hospital. Check the 59 stand-alone hospitals and college hospitals, plus the rules and fees.
Your house job counts towards full PMDC registration only if it is done in a hospital PMDC approves, after you hold provisional registration. Check two PMDC lists before you accept a post: 59 stand-alone hospitals approved for house jobs, and the teaching hospitals attached to 190 medical and dental colleges. Both are free PDFs on pmdc.pk.
Fresh MBBS and BDS graduates hunt for house job seats every autumn, and some private hospitals offer them without being on either list. We read both lists and PMDC's Registration Regulations 2023 on 9 October 2026. The rules are strict: months done in the wrong place, or before provisional registration, are not counted.
A house job counts only in a PMDC approved hospital
PMDC's Registration Regulations 2023 require one year of house job in a hospital approved by the Council before full registration. Training must be done "only in a hospital recognized by the Council". A house job in any other hospital is not accepted as experience.
A house job, also called internship or foundation year, is the paid year of supervised hospital work after the MBBS or BDS degree. Full registration, which PMDC calls permanent registration, is what lets you practise on your own.
Two kinds of hospital qualify. The first is a teaching hospital attached to a recognised medical or dental college. The second is a stand-alone hospital that PMDC has approved for house jobs even though it has no college.
Get provisional registration before day one
PMDC will not count any house job done before you hold provisional registration. The regulations say you must apply for it immediately, before your house job starts. The hospital must check that you hold it, or have applied, before giving you a seat.
The 2023 regulations list these online form fees. Check the current fee on PMDC's portal when you apply, because fees can be revised.

Graduates of foreign medical schools get provisional registration within 14 days of their degree being verified. They can do the house job before passing the National Registration Examination (NRE), but must pass it before full registration. The NRE Step-I now falls on 8 November 2026.
How to check a hospital on PMDC's lists
Open pmdc.pk and go to the Accreditation Standards page under Publications. Two links matter: the stand-alone hospital list dated 7 November 2025, and the list of recognised colleges with attached hospitals of the same date.
- Open the "Stand Alone Hospitals Approved for the House Job" PDF on pmdc.pk.
- Search it for the hospital's name and city. There are 59 entries.
- If the hospital is not there, open "Recognised Institutes with attached Hospitals".
- Search for the hospital name. Each college lists its hospitals, marked "Own" or "Affiliated".
- If it appears in neither list, ask the hospital for PMDC's written approval before you join.
- Save both PDFs with their dates, in case the lists change during your year.
Search by a short part of the name. The lists spell things in different ways, such as "C.M.H" and "D.H.Q.", so "Jhelum" finds more than "DHQ Hospital Jhelum".
Which stand-alone hospitals are on the list
PMDC's 7 November 2025 list names 59 stand-alone hospitals. They include Combined Military Hospitals, district headquarters hospitals and well-known trust and specialist hospitals. Karachi has the largest share.

A specialist hospital on the list may not cover every module you need. An eye hospital, for example, cannot give you three months of general surgery. Plan your year so each module is done in a hospital that runs that department.
What the house year must contain
An MBBS house job has four modules of three months each: internal medicine, an allied medicine department, general surgery and an allied surgery department. Each module must be at least three months. Basic life support (BLS) certification is also compulsory during the year.

Pay is required too. PMDC says every college must give its own graduates a paid house job, with no unpaid house job in the parent institute. A private hospital must pay house officers at least the highest amount paid in any public hospital of that province. A hospital may take graduates of other colleges, but cannot go beyond the slots PMDC has allocated.
If a hospital offers you an unpaid seat, or a seat beyond its slots, treat that as a warning sign. Before you start, also check the college is PMDC recognised, since the attached hospital list follows college recognition. After your year, your name and status should show when you check PMDC registration online.

Where can I do my house job in Pakistan?
In a teaching hospital attached to a PMDC recognised college, or in one of the 59 stand-alone hospitals PMDC has approved.
Does a house job before provisional registration count?
No. PMDC's regulations say experience before provisional registration is not counted towards full registration.
