Check Poultry Farm Distance, Space and Registration Rules in Punjab

Punjab says broiler farms need 1 km, layer farms 2 km and breeder farms 3 km from the next farm. See bird space, who registers the farm and the Newcastle doses.

Punjab's Livestock Department says a broiler farm should sit 1 km from the next broiler farm, a layer farm 2 km from another layer farm and a breeder farm 3 km from another breeder, with 1 square foot for each broiler and 2 for each layer. The Deputy Director Livestock of your district registers the farm.

We read the department's FAQs page at livestock.punjab.gov.pk on 21 October 2026. Distances, space, registration and the Newcastle schedule are from it. We did not visit a farm, and the page does not give fees or forms.

The three distance rules keep disease from jumping between farms

The department sets 1 km between broiler farms, 2 km between layer farms and 3 km between breeder farms. A broiler is a chicken raised for meat. A layer is a hen kept for eggs. A breeder lays eggs that become the next flock.

Farm typeDistance from same typeSpace per bird
Broiler1 km1 square foot
Layer2 km2 square feet
Breeder3 kmNot stated on the page

Check the distance before you buy land or build a shed. A shed built 600 metres from a neighbour's broiler shed breaks the department's guide, and that is hard to fix later.

Register the farm with the district livestock office

The department says the local or concerned Deputy Director Livestock registers dairy or poultry farms. Its page does not list a fee, a form or a deadline, so call before you go. The helpline on the home page is 08000-9211.

For a subsidised unit, the department says the Prime Minister's Rural Poultry Units can be obtained by applying at your respective Additional Director's office. We do not know whether that scheme is open now.

For a bank loan, the department says the feasibility report comes from the office of the concerned Additional Director Livestock. See the ZTBL poultry loan for one lender's terms.

  1. Measure the distance to the nearest farm of your type.
  2. Plan 1 square foot per broiler or 2 per layer.
  3. Call 08000-9211 and ask for your Deputy Director Livestock.
  4. Ask what papers the registration needs.
  5. Request the feasibility report if you want a bank loan.

Newcastle disease vaccine follows a three-step schedule

For Newcastle disease, locally called Rani Khait, the department recommends eye drops up to the age of one week, half a cc under the skin after 21 days, and 1 cc under the skin at 2 months. Vaccinate on time, because late birds stay exposed.

The page does not name the vaccine brand. The department's vaccine institute lists two Newcastle vaccines it makes, Mukteswar live and Lasota live, so ask the vet which one suits your flock. The department's page does not say which stage uses which.

Egg output rises with food, water, light and clean collection

The department lists what lifts egg production: a proper diet, clean fresh water, managed light, timely medicine, collecting eggs at least twice a day and removing broken eggs at once. Soft or raw eggs come from poor calcium, it says, so feed calcium.

It also describes a high-laying hen: bright eyes, red colour, a soft belly, four fingers between breast and tail and two fingers between the hip bones. These are the department's words, and a vet can show you how to check.

Broilers need on-time vaccines and a dry shed in the rains

To lift broiler output the department lists healthy well-bred chicks, good care and a balanced diet, vaccination on schedule, protection from extreme heat and cold, control of shed humidity in the rainy season and enough room to grow.

Prices for the chicken you sell move daily. The chicken and egg prices by city page shows the spread. The department does not give a market price on its FAQ page.

The department publishes booklets and feasibility reports on layer farming, broiler farming, rural poultry, duck farming and quail farming, along with a vaccination chart. Ask for the one that matches your birds. For layers, protect the shed from damp in the rains and keep the temperature right for the age of the birds, as the department advises.

Keep a simple flock record: the date chicks arrive, the vaccine dates, deaths and daily eggs. If birds fall sick, a vet and the Rawalpindi laboratory can only help if you can say what happened and when.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 21 October 2026. We read the Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department's FAQs page and its vaccine production page. We did not find registration fees, forms, the breeder space figure or the current status of the rural poultry scheme, and we did not call the helpline. Confirm with your district office before you build.
