Green Line Express (5UP) leaves Karachi Cantt at 22:00 and reaches Lahore at 14:35, Rawalpindi at 19:35 and Margalla station in Islamabad at 20:10 the next day. The return Green Line (6DN) leaves Margalla at 15:00 and Rawalpindi at 15:40, and reaches Karachi Cantt at 13:50 the next day. Economy from Karachi to Rawalpindi costs Rs 6,350, and AC Business costs Rs 15,350.

We read these times and fares on the official Pakistan Railways booking system on 2 November 2026, for trains on 5 November. Green Line is the fastest of the Karachi to Rawalpindi trains we checked, with only seven stops on the way. That speed comes with two catches: a higher fare, and a pricing rule that can charge you for more distance than you travel. Both are explained below.

Green Line takes 21 hours 35 minutes from Karachi to Rawalpindi

Green Line covers 1,554 km from Karachi Cantt to Margalla. It stops only at Hyderabad, Rohri, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Lahore, Chaklala and Rawalpindi. That makes it about five hours quicker than Tezgam and nine hours quicker than Hazara Express on the same route.

Margalla is the Islamabad station, 6 km past Rawalpindi on this line. If you live in Islamabad, getting off there can save you the drive through Rawalpindi traffic.

Green Line fares start at Rs 6,350 from Karachi

The booking system priced four classes on Green Line for 5 November 2026. There is no AC Sleeper on this train, so the top class is AC Business.

ClassKarachi to RawalpindiLahore to Rawalpindi
EconomyRs 6,350Rs 2,350
AC Standard berthRs 12,250Rs 3,800
AC ParlourRs 13,800Rs 4,150

Green Line Economy costs Rs 800 more than Tezgam Economy for the same trip on the same date. On the short Lahore to Rawalpindi leg, it costs Rs 2,350 against Rs 1,100 on the intercity trains such as Subak Raftar. You are paying for fewer stops.

Green Line charges from the start of your seat quota

The Pakistan Railways terms and conditions say Green Line fares are quota based. If you board at Rohri for Karachi but the only free seat belongs to the Rawalpindi to Karachi quota, you pay the Rawalpindi to Karachi fare. On other trains, AC fares are worked out from your own boarding and leaving stations.

So a short trip from a middle station can cost close to the full fare. Check the price on the booking screen before you pay, and compare it with a train that charges by your own distance. The rule is explained with examples in how the Green Line quota fare works.

Every Green Line stop in both directions

Green Line stops at only nine stations, counting both ends. Day 2 starts after midnight before Hyderabad on the 5UP, and before Khanewal on the 6DN.

Cancellations, luggage and late running

Cancelling an e-ticket costs 10 per cent more than 48 hours before departure, 20 per cent between 48 and 24 hours, and 30 per cent within 24 hours. The terms also say the Green Line condition on quota seats lapses within 24 hours of travel, though the wording on the page is not clear, so check your refund amount before you confirm. If the train is cancelled or runs more than 6 hours late, no deduction applies, with an application signed by the station master.

Free luggage on Green Line is 20 kg a ticket in every class. The 50 kg allowance in the Pakistan Railways FAQ applies only to AC Sleeper, which this train does not carry. Rules for extra weight are in the Pakistan Railways luggage allowance.
