Kia Launches the Sportage L Hybrid and Sorento PHEV
Lucky Motor has launched the Sportage L Hybrid and Sorento PHEV. Booking amounts, prices and what a plug-in actually means here.

Two days after MG put a hybrid SUV on sale at Rs 71 lakh, Kia has answered with one of its own and a plug-in hybrid above it.
Lucky Motor Corporation has launched the Kia Sportage L Hybrid and the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid, with bookings open at authorised dealerships. The Kia Sportage L Hybrid price in Pakistan sits at the upper end of a range running to Rs 11,299,000, and the booking amounts alone tell you which market this is aimed at.
Rs 20 lakh, before you have taken delivery of anything.
What are the booking amounts?
Rs 2,000,000 for the Sportage L FWD HEV, Rs 2,500,000 for the AWD HEV, and Rs 3,000,000 for the Sorento AWD PHEV.
| Variant | Booking |
|---|---|
| Sportage L FWD HEV | Rs 2,000,000 |
| Sportage L AWD HEV | Rs 2,500,000 |
| Sorento AWD PHEV | Rs 3,000,000 |
Worth stopping on those numbers. A Rs 20 lakh booking is more than the full price of a new small car in Pakistan, held by the manufacturer while you wait. That is normal in this segment and it is still a serious commitment of cash.

What does the Sportage L Hybrid cost?
Here is where most coverage is misleading, so read this carefully. The Sportage L range runs from Rs 7,899,000 for the base Alpha to Rs 11,299,000 for the HEV. That is the whole line, petrol included.
The hybrid is at the top of that range, not the bottom. Anyone quoting Rs 78.99 lakh as the hybrid price is reading the wrong end of a table. Claimed fuel average is 16 to 20 km per litre on a 52 litre tank, and both front wheel drive and all wheel drive variants are offered.
What is a plug-in hybrid and does it suit Pakistan?
A PHEV has a much larger battery than a normal hybrid and can be charged from a socket, so it runs on electricity alone for a meaningful distance before the petrol engine is needed at all.
That is genuinely useful for short daily driving. It is also the variant most affected by things nobody mentions in a showroom:
- You need somewhere to charge it. A PHEV without a home charging point spends its life as a heavier, more expensive normal hybrid.
- Load shedding makes overnight charging less dependable than the brochure assumes.
- The larger battery costs more to replace, and Pakistan has almost no history of pricing that.
- If your driving is mostly long motorway runs, the plug-in advantage largely disappears.
The Sorento PHEV joins a lineup that already has a 3.5 litre V6 and a standard HEV, so Kia is now selling three quite different powertrains under one name. Ask which one you are actually being quoted.
How does it compare with the MG?
Directly, and that is the point of launching this week. The MG ZS Hybrid+ starts at Rs 70.99 lakh, roughly Rs 40 lakh below where the Sportage hybrid lands.
What the Kia premium buys is a longer established dealer network, service coverage that reaches beyond the major cities, and a resale market that has watched Kia operate here for years. What it does not buy is a dramatically different driving experience, because both are competent mid size hybrid SUVs.
Whether that is worth Rs 40 lakh is the actual question, and it depends far more on where you live than on the cars. Our comparison of the four hybrid SUVs now on sale works through that properly, and the MG ZS Hybrid launch piece covers the cheaper option in detail.
What should you check before booking?
Given the size of the deposit, more than most people do.
- Get the delivery timeline in writing. Booking money sits with the manufacturer, and waiting periods in this segment have run long.
- Confirm exactly which variant your booking secures, since FWD and AWD differ by Rs 5 lakh at deposit stage alone.
- Ask what the hybrid battery warranty covers and for how long, separately from the vehicle warranty.
- For the PHEV, confirm your home electrical supply can support a charger before committing.
- Check the registration position, since Punjab now requires vehicles to be registered before delivery.
That last point is new and catches people out. Our piece on Punjab's pre delivery registration rule covers what changed.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Kia Sportage L Hybrid price in Pakistan?
The Sportage L range runs from Rs 7,899,000 to Rs 11,299,000, with the HEV at the upper end. The lower figure is the petrol Alpha, not the hybrid.
How much is the booking amount?
Rs 2,000,000 for the FWD HEV, Rs 2,500,000 for the AWD HEV, and Rs 3,000,000 for the Sorento AWD PHEV.
What fuel average does it give?
Kia claims 16 to 20 km per litre on a 52 litre tank. Treat that as a claim rather than a tested Pakistani figure.
What is the difference between HEV and PHEV?
A PHEV has a larger battery you charge from a socket and can run on electricity alone for a useful distance. An HEV charges itself and never plugs in.
Is a plug-in hybrid practical in Pakistan?
Only if you can reliably charge it at home. Without that, you are carrying a heavier and more expensive battery for no benefit.
How does it compare to the MG ZS Hybrid?
The MG starts around Rs 40 lakh cheaper. The Kia premium buys an established dealer network, wider service coverage and a longer resale track record here.
