4 Sites Rank for NADRA CNIC Fees and None of Them Agree

We sat down to write a simple guide: how to correct a spelling mistake in your name on a CNIC. It needed one fact. What does it cost?

We could not establish it. Working out why turned into this article instead.

Four pages, three different answers

We opened the pages that rank when you search for the NADRA CNIC modification fee. Here is what they told us, on 13 August 2026, for the same service in the same category.

Read that again. The same job, in the same category, is Rs 400 on one page and Rs 750 on another. Urgent delivery is 12 days, or 15 days, or a range that covers both.

Neither of the two sites giving figures cited where they got them.

We are not accusing anyone

This needs saying plainly, because it would be easy to read this article the wrong way.

We are not suggesting any of these sites is dishonest. The likeliest explanation is much duller: fees change, a page written two years ago keeps ranking, and nobody goes back to update it. That happens to every publisher, including us, which is why we keep a corrections policy.

The problem is not any single page. The problem is that a reader has no way to tell which of them is current. Neither did we, and finding out is our job.

What happened when we went to NADRA

The obvious answer is to skip the blogs and read the authority's own page. So we did that.

1. Direct requests were refused. Five NADRA addresses returned a 403 to us, across three different browsers we identified as, including a mobile one.
2. We reached the site another way, through a text service that fetches a page and returns its words.
3. The site loaded. The organisation's pages, contacts and careers section all came through normally.
4. The Fee Structure item carried no destination. It appeared in the navigation as plain text, while Procurement and Careers next to it were working links.
5. Six links on the page ended in the word "undefined", which is what a page produces when a value it expected was not there.

Now the honest limitation, because it matters more than the finding.

NADRA's site is built as a JavaScript application. A text service does not always run the script that fills in those links. So what we can tell you is that we could not read a published fee. We cannot tell you that no fee page exists, and we are not going to imply it. Someone opening the site in a normal browser in Pakistan may well see a working link where we saw none.

That 403 almost certainly reflects where we were connecting from rather than any fault at NADRA's end.

Why we are not printing a number

We have a rule here: we do not state a fee as fact unless we read it on the responsible authority's own page. We did not, so we are not.

It would be easy to average the two figures, or pick the one that appears most often, and publish that with confidence. It would also be worthless. You would take it to a counter, hear a different number, and have no idea which of you was wrong.

A fee is not the kind of thing to be roughly right about. It is the money in your hand at a window.

How to get the real number

Three routes, in the order we would use them.

Call NADRA. The support number published on NADRA's own site is 051 111 786 100. Ask for your exact service and your exact category. A CNIC renewal, a modification and a duplicate are not the same thing, and normal, urgent and executive are priced separately.

Use the complaint system if you get nowhere. NADRA runs a Complaint Management System at complaints.nadra.gov.pk, which loaded normally for us and lets you track a complaint through its stages.

Confirm at the counter before you pay. Whatever you were quoted on the phone, hear it again at the window, and take a receipt. The receipt is your proof of which category you paid for, which is what you will need if the card does not arrive in time.

How to tell a lookalike page

None of the sites above pretended to be NADRA. But this search area attracts pages that do, and the rules are worth knowing.

NADRA lives on nadra.gov.pk and its subdomains, including id.nadra.gov.pk and complaints.nadra.gov.pk. The part immediately before the first slash is what counts. A domain ending in .pk or even .org.pk proves nothing at all, and we have found NADRA branding sitting on a .org.pk address before.

Two habits protect you. Nobody needs your CNIC number to quote you a fee, so a page that asks for it before telling you a price is asking for the wrong thing. And no legitimate fee is paid to a personal bank account or an easypaisa number given in a comment.

What this says about searching for anything official

This was not a hard question. It is one number, for a service millions of people use, published by an organisation that has it written down somewhere.

Yet an ordinary search returns a wall of pages that look equally confident and do not match. That is worth remembering the next time you look up a passport fee, a token tax rate or a challan amount. The first result is not the authority. It is whoever wrote about the authority most effectively.

NADRA operates an online identity service alongside its registration centres. Which corrections can be completed online depends on the change and the documents required, so confirm your specific case before assuming either route.

How do I know a NADRA page is real?

Check that the address ends in nadra.gov.pk before the first slash. A .pk or .org.pk ending on its own means nothing.

What if I was overcharged?
