We read NUMS's own admission notice and its eligibility criteria document on 7 October 2026. Here is what they say, in the order you will need it.

Key dates for NUMS postgraduate admissions Spring 2027, from 6 October to 16 December 2026

The call covers PhD, MPhil, MS, MSc, MSN and certificate programmes

NUMS lists programmes at several institutes, shown in its notice as AM College, AFPGMI and KHINAMS. Some programmes also name AFIC, AFIT or AFIRI as the host institute. The list below is the one NUMS published, not a full prospectus.

  • PhD: Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine, Pharmacology, Public Health and Science of Dental Materials (AM College), Pathology (AFPGMI) and Psychology (KHINAMS).
  • MPhil: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Molecular Medicine, Community Medicine, Science of Dental Materials, Oral Pathology, Chemical Pathology, Microbiology and Haematology, plus MPhil Psychology.
  • Diploma in Cardiology and a Master in Health Professions Education (MHPE).
  • MS Clinical Psychology and MS Transfusion Medicine.
  • MSc Cardiac Anesthesia.
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), for female candidates only.
  • Clinical certification in Interventional Radiology and in Hybrid Imaging (PET-CT Scan).

MPhil applicants in basic sciences at AM College or AFPGMI may choose two subjects in order of priority. NUMS says it will shortlist for interview on the first priority only.

Eligibility depends on the programme, and most need a valid test score

Each programme has its own rules in NUMS's eligibility document. Medical MPhil programmes ask for an MBBS or BDS, PM&DC registration where it applies, and a GAT or HAT General score of at least 50 per cent. PhD programmes ask for a 60 per cent score.

These are the main points we found in the eligibility document dated 5 October 2026.

  1. PhD in Biochemistry, Pharmacology and similar subjects needs an MBBS, plus an MPhil or FCPS, with first division or a CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0.
  2. PhD applicants need a valid GRE, GAT or HAT Subject score, or the NUMS entry test, with at least 60 per cent.
  3. PhD applicants must also submit an Academic Statement of Purpose of about 800 to 1,000 words.
  4. MPhil in medical basic sciences needs an MBBS or BDS and a GAT or HAT General score of at least 50 per cent.
  5. MPhil Psychology needs an MA, MSc or four-year BS in psychology from an HEC recognised university.
  6. MSN needs a BS Nursing (Generic), a Post RN degree with HEC equivalence, PNMC registration and at least one year of work experience after Post RN.

Read the full document for your programme before you pay. Some programmes ask for a house job certificate, years of clinical experience or a research proposal. The NUMS notice links the full criteria PDF.

The test, interviews and results follow a fixed order

Candidates in programmes that use the NUMS entry test sit it onsite on 17 or 18 November 2026. Those who qualify go on to interviews between 1 and 8 December. The merit list for all programmes is due on 16 December.

The entry test is on 17 November for MS Transfusion Medicine, Dip Card, PhD (AM College and AFPGMI), MSc Cardiac Anesthesia and PhD Psychology. It is on 18 November for MPhil Psychology, MHPE, MS Clinical Psychology and MSN. MS Clinical Psychology candidates who pass also sit a psychological assessment on 26 November.

The test venue is printed on the admit card, and reporting time is 9:00 am. NUMS says it will also email venue details.

If you have not yet sat the GRE, HAT or GAT, you can still apply. Upload your admit card and test login details with the form. You must email your qualifying result to pg.admissions@numspak.edu.pk by 17 November 2026. Without a valid result, NUMS says it will not shortlist you.

Six steps to apply for NUMS postgraduate admission, from the online form to final submit

Government and semi-government employees must apply through their departments. An NOC from the department is a condition for final selection. Any foreign qualification must come with an equivalence certificate from IBCC or HEC. Our walkthrough of getting HEC equivalence for a foreign degree covers that step.

Overseas Pakistani applicants must email extra documents

Children of overseas Pakistanis can apply under a separate category. They must email proof of the parent's overseas status to pg.admissions@numspak.edu.pk before the due date, using the subject line format NUMS gives in its notice.

NUMS counts as overseas a citizen working abroad on a valid visa, a dual national with a NICOP or POC, or a government or armed forces employee posted abroad. The applicant does not need to have studied abroad. The proof is the parent's NICOP or POC, passport with visa, residence permit and proof of overseas employment. Missing or incomplete papers mean NUMS will not consider you under this category.

Your test score matters here too. If you plan to sit the HEC test, see how to register for the HEC HAT and get your roll number slip. HEC has also put off its rule making GRE or HAT compulsory for MS, MPhil and PhD admission, as we explain in the note on the GRE and HAT deferral to Fall 2027. That is why NUMS still runs its own entry test this round.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We last checked on 7 October 2026. The dates, fees, programmes, documents and test schedule come from the NUMS Spring 2027 postgraduate admission notice and the eligibility criteria PDF dated 5 October 2026, both on numspak.edu.pk. We did not apply, so we cannot say how the portal behaves. NUMS lists interview dates as tentative. Check the notice again before you pay, because NUMS can change its schedule.
