Punjab School Winter Vacation 2026-27: No Dates Notified Yet
No winter vacation notice for Punjab schools in 2026-27 is on the official page yet. See last year's dates, the notice timing and how to check a real one.
The Punjab School Education Department has not published a winter vacation notification for 2026-27. We read its Notifications page on 7 October 2026, and the newest vacation notice on it is the summer break, 22 May to 23 August 2026. Last year the winter notice came on 4 December. So no official winter dates exist yet, and any date going round now is a guess.
Every year the same screenshot goes round parent groups in October: winter vacation starts on a date, ends on another date. Most of them are last year's notice with the year changed.
This page shows what is officially notified, what last winter's notices looked like, and how to check a new one in a minute.
No winter vacation 2026-27 notice is on the official page
The department posts its orders at schools.punjab.gov.pk under Notifications. On 7 October 2026 the list held the summer vacation notice for 2026 and the winter notices for 2025-26. It held nothing for winter 2026-27.
That is normal for early October. The department decides winter dates late, as the table below shows. Until a numbered notification appears on that page, treat every date as unconfirmed.
Last winter's notices show how late the dates come
The department issued the 2025-26 winter vacation notice on 4 December 2025, 18 days before the break began. It then extended the break on 10 January 2026, two days before schools were due to reopen, because of a cold wave.
| Notice date | What it said | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 4 December 2025 | Winter vacation 22 December 2025 to 10 January 2026 | Annual winter break |
| 10 January 2026 | Break extended 12 to 18 January, schools reopen 19 January (Monday) | Cold waves and bad weather |
| 11 May 2026 | Summer vacation 22 May to 23 August 2026, schools resume 24 August | Annual summer break |
Two lessons follow. The notice arrived 18 days ahead in December and 11 days ahead in May. And the end date can move with almost no warning, so a family booking travel for the first week of January should plan for a possible extension.
We are not predicting 2026-27 dates. The 2025-26 dates are shown only so you can recognise a fake notice that reuses them.
How to check a winter vacation notice in a minute
A real notice is a numbered PDF on the department's own site, signed by the Secretary of the School Education Department. Open the Notifications page, find the newest title that mentions vacations, and read the dates, the year and the file number.
- Go to schools.punjab.gov.pk and open Notifications.
- Look for a title that says Winter Vacations and a 2026-27 or 2026 date.
- Open the PDF and read the first paragraph: it names the start date, the end date and the reopening day.
- Check the date at the top. A notice dated December 2025 is last year's.
- Check it says "all Public and Private Schools across the Province of Punjab", not one district.
A school's own message is useful, but it is not the order. If your school and the department differ, the department's notification governs.
Smog can close schools before the winter break
Winter vacation is not the only closure. In November 2024 the Environmental Protection Agency ordered schools closed up to Grade 12 in several divisions for smog, starting on 7 November, and the School Education Department then notified it. A smog closure starts with an EPA order, not a school message, and we have set out where the official order appears and how to tell a real one from an old forward.
As of our check, no smog closure of schools had been ordered for 2026. The EPA has asked Lahore schools to arrange carpooling to cut smog, as we reported in Lahore schools told to arrange carpooling. That is a direction to schools, not a closure.
What we could not verify for Sindh, KP and the class 5 and 8 exams
We could not read the Sindh education department's site, because it blocked our request. We could not open the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa education site or the Punjab Examination Commission's site either. So this page makes no claim about winter dates in Sindh or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, or about the 2027 exam dates for classes 5 and 8.
We also could not read the department's Academic Session 2025-2026 notification, which is a scanned image with no text in it. Nothing on the Notifications page gave a 2026-27 academic calendar. For the exam dates, wait for the Commission's own notice and check it against the year.
Sindh parents can see the current timing change in Sindh school timings cut by one hour, which runs to 31 October 2026.
What to do while the notice is missing
Book refundable travel, or wait until the notice is out. Do not pay a non-refundable fare on a date that came from a forwarded image. If you are admitting a child, the open window matters more than the winter dates: see how to admit your child to a government school in Punjab before 31 October.
The public holidays that fall in December are fixed by the federal government, and those are on the national list in public holidays in Pakistan 2026. They are separate from the school break.
Common questions
When is the winter vacation for Punjab schools in 2026-27?
Not notified yet. The School Education Department had published no winter vacation notice for 2026-27 when we checked on 7 October 2026. Last year's notice came on 4 December.
When did Punjab schools close for winter last year?
From 22 December 2025 to 10 January 2026, then extended from 12 to 18 January 2026 for cold weather. Schools reopened on 19 January 2026.
Where is the official winter vacation notice published?
On schools.punjab.gov.pk, under Notifications, as a numbered PDF signed by the Secretary of the School Education Department.
Can smog close Punjab schools this year?
Yes. The Environmental Protection Agency can order a closure for named districts, as it did in November 2024. No smog closure order for schools had been issued when we checked.
Are the winter dates the same in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa?
We could not check. Education is a provincial subject, so each province notifies its own dates. Look at that province's own notification.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 7 October 2026. We read the School Education Department's Notifications page and the PDFs dated 4 December 2025, 10 January 2026 and 11 May 2026. We could not open the Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or Punjab Examination Commission sites, and the 2025-26 academic session notice is a scanned image we could not read.
