How to Register With the Pakistan Engineering Council: Rs 1,000 Fee and Documents
How to register as an engineer with the Pakistan Engineering Council: the Rs 1,000 fee, documents, online steps, Rs 5,500 PE title and yearly renewal costs.

To register as an engineer in Pakistan, apply on the Pakistan Engineering Council portal at portal.pec.org.pk and pay Rs 1,000 for a Registered Engineer (RE) certificate. You need a degree from a programme on the PEC accredited list, your CNIC and scans of your documents. A smart card comes with the certificate.
Many employers ask engineers for a PEC number. This guide lists the fees, documents and steps from the PEC pages we read on 8 October 2026, and shows what to do about renewal and corrections.
Check your degree is on the PEC list before you apply
PEC only registers graduates whose degree comes from an institution on its First Schedule for Pakistani institutions or its Second Schedule for foreign ones. Check the programme first, because an unaccredited degree is refused after you have paid.
The PEC guidelines say a Registered Engineer must hold an accredited engineering bachelor degree in any engineering discipline. They list graduation after 15 January 2008 as part of the eligibility. If you graduated before that, ask PEC which category applies to you.
Use our guide to checking if an engineering programme is PEC accredited for the lookup. If your degree is from abroad, the guide to HEC equivalence for a foreign degree covers the separate recognition step.
Prepare the documents the PEC portal asks for
PEC asks for readable scans of your testimonials, the fee voucher, your CNIC, your signature and a photograph with a blue background. If you pay online, keep the original acknowledgement receipt. Prepare the files before you start, because you cannot edit the form after submission.
- Degree and transcripts, as scans.
- CNIC, front and back.
- A photograph with a blue background.
- Your signature on plain paper, scanned.
- The fee voucher or online payment receipt.
PEC recommends JPEG or JPG files between 250 KB and 1 MB each. Resize your scans first so the portal accepts them.
Know the fees PEC lists
PEC lists Rs 1,000 for a new Registered Engineer certificate, whether your degree is from a Pakistani or an international institution. The Professional Engineer title costs Rs 5,500. Renewal is Rs 1,000 a year plus arrears of Rs 500 for each year you missed.
| Service | PEC fee |
|---|---|
| New registration as Registered Engineer | Rs 1,000 |
| Professional Engineer (PE) title | Rs 5,500 |
| Yearly renewal | Rs 1,000 plus arrears |
| Arrears for an overdue renewal | Rs 500 a year |
| Correction of name or date of birth | Rs 1,000 |
| Duplicate registration certificate | Rs 1,000 |
| Duplicate renewal card | Rs 500 |
| Endorsement of a higher qualification | Rs 1,000 |

These come from the PEC fee page as we read it on 8 October 2026. Foreign nationals and international Professional Engineers pay in US dollars. Always pay only through the PEC portal or the voucher it generates.
Follow the registration steps in order
The process has four stages: apply online with correct details, upload your documents, deposit the fee, then receive the certificate with a smart card. Details cannot be amended after submission, so check every field before you click submit.
- Open portal.pec.org.pk and create your account.
- Fill in the application with details exactly as on your degree and CNIC.
- Upload the scanned documents.
- Pay the Rs 1,000 fee by voucher or online.
- Wait for your registration certificate and smart card.

PEC does not give a processing time on the page we read, so we cannot promise a date. If you are applying for a job or a licence, ask PEC for the current wait on its UAN, 051-111-111-732.
Renew every year, and fix mistakes early
The PEC guidelines say the certificate is valid for the year of issue and must be renewed after expiry. Missing renewals costs Rs 500 a year in arrears on top of the yearly fee, so renew on time. Correct name or date of birth errors at once.

If you need an attested copy of your degree for a job abroad, see the guide to HEC degree attestation online. PEC registration and HEC attestation are separate steps. One does not replace the other.
Keep a copy of your registration number once you receive it. Employers, tender offices and licensing bodies often ask for it, and you will need it again when you renew or ask for a duplicate card. Store the voucher receipt with it, because PEC may ask for proof of payment if its record does not match.
