Sindh has three holidays left in 2026 from the federal list: Iqbal Day on Monday 9 November, Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas on Friday 25 December, and the Day after Christmas on Saturday 26 December for Christians. On top of these, Sindh adds its own provincial holidays, such as 27 December for Benazir Bhutto's death anniversary, which in 2026 falls on a Sunday and has not been notified.

Sindh's extra days are easy to miss because they are announced late, one at a time. We read the High Court of Sindh's holiday notices for 2025 and 2026 on 24 October 2026. The court publishes every Sindh government holiday it follows, with the government's notification number, which makes its notice list the clearest public record of what Sindh actually closed this year.

Sindh follows the federal list and adds its own provincial days

The High Court of Sindh's notice of 2 February 2026 lists the same 12 public and 22 optional holidays as the federal circular for all courts in Sindh. During the year the Sindh government then declared extra days, such as 13 March and 29 July 2026, and the court followed each one.

Sindh holidays left in 2026: 9 November, 25 and 26 December, and 27 December not notified

The national picture, with every federal date this year, is in public holidays in Pakistan 2026. This page covers what is different in Sindh.

27 December was a Sindh public holiday in 2025 and falls on a Sunday in 2026

The Government of Sindh declared Saturday 27 December 2025 a public holiday for Benazir Bhutto's death anniversary, by notification of 19 December 2025. The High Court of Sindh then closed all courts that day. In 2026 the date is a Sunday, so offices on a five-day week lose nothing either way.

For six-day offices and schools, a Sunday holiday makes no difference either, since Sunday is already off. So in practice the 2026 anniversary is unlikely to change anyone's working week. If the Sindh government issues a notice, it is most likely in the week before, as it did on 19 December last year.

The December weekend as a whole runs Friday 25 to Sunday 27 December for five-day offices, as set out in holidays in December 2026 in Pakistan.

Every Sindh district can add two local holidays a year

The court notice of 2 February 2026 says district and civil courts observe two local holidays a year within their district, declared by the deputy commissioner or administrator. That is why Hyderabad, Larkana or Sukkur can close on a day Karachi does not.

These local holidays usually mark an urs or a district event. They apply inside that district only. The deputy commissioner's office announces them, normally a few days before, and the district court follows.

  • Who declares it: the deputy commissioner or administrator of the district.
  • How many: two a year for the courts, under the High Court's 2026 notice.
  • Where it applies: inside that district only, not the whole province.
  • What to check: the deputy commissioner's notice, or the High Court of Sindh's notice list for courts.
How local holidays work in Sindh districts: two a year, declared by the deputy commissioner

Optional holidays in Sindh follow the same one-or-three rule

Sindh's courts use the same 22 optional holidays as the federal list. The court notice says a Muslim officer may take one optional holiday a year and a non-Muslim officer three, with the head of department's prior permission. Two remain in 2026: Diwali on 9 November and Guru Nanak Dev Ji's birthday on 24 November.

Diwali this year falls on Iqbal Day, when offices are closed anyway. The notice also says a government servant "would not ordinarily be refused" an optional holiday of religious significance. More on November is in holidays in November 2026.

How to check whether Sindh has declared a holiday

Sindh holiday news spreads on WhatsApp long before anything official appears. Check the High Court of Sindh notice list, which carries the Sindh government's notification number for each provincial holiday, or the district deputy commissioner's own notice for a local one.

  1. Open the High Court of Sindh website and read the newest notifications.
  2. Look for a Sindh government notification number, such as SO(CTC)(SGA&CD), in the text.
  3. For a single district, look for the deputy commissioner's signed notice.
  4. For schools, read the school's own message. School closures can differ from office closures.
  5. If a message has no number, date or signature, wait for one of the above.

For notices that reach you on WhatsApp claiming to come from a court, the checks in verifying a Sindh court notice sent on WhatsApp also apply. Sindh's school timings for this term are covered in Sindh school timings.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the High Court of Sindh notices list on 24 October 2026 and opened its notification No. GAZ/XVII.3(v) of 2 February 2026, No. Gaz/XVII.4(I) of 28 July 2026, No. Gaz/XVII.4(I) of 24 December 2025 and the list entry for 13 March 2026, plus the Cabinet Division 2026 holiday circular. We could not open the Sindh government's Services, General Administration and Coordination Department website, so the government notifications are as cited by the court. The reason for the 13 March holiday is not given on the court's entry, so we do not state one.
