Mobile Data Usage Calculator

Buying a bundle is guesswork for most people. Either the data runs out in three weeks or half of it expires unused. Put in what you actually do on a normal day and see the real number.

Per day

1.5 GB

Per month

44 GB

Monthly figures assume 30 days at the same rate. Video is what moves the number: dropping YouTube from 1080p to 480p roughly halves your total on its own, and turning off autoplay in your social apps does much the same.

Where your data actually goes

Video is almost the entire story. Streaming and short form video together usually account for more than three quarters of a typical monthly total, which means every other habit you might worry about is noise by comparison. Messaging, browsing and even voice calls are rounding errors next to an hour of Reels.

That also tells you where to save. Capping YouTube at 480p on mobile data, and turning off autoplay in social apps, will cut a heavy month roughly in half without changing how much you use your phone. Chasing smaller savings elsewhere is not worth the effort.

Picking a bundle from the number

Once you have a monthly figure, add about 20 percent for background sync, app updates and the months you use more than usual. Buying slightly over is cheaper than running dry and paying out of bundle rates, which are the most expensive data you can buy on any network in Pakistan.

Frequently asked questions

How many GB do I need per month?

Light users who mostly chat and browse land near 2 to 3 GB. Add an hour of daily YouTube and you are past 20 GB. Put your own habits into the calculator rather than trusting a general figure.

How much data does an hour of YouTube use?

Around 700 MB at 720p. At 480p it is closer to 300 MB and at 1080p it can pass 1.5 GB, which is why resolution matters more than anything else you can change.

Do WhatsApp calls use a lot of data?

Voice calls barely register at roughly half an MB a minute, so an hour costs about 30 MB. Video calls are ten times heavier at around 5 MB a minute.

Why does my phone use data when I am not touching it?

Background sync, app updates and cloud photo backups all run on their own. They are not in this calculator, so allow a little headroom on top of what it shows you.

Does 5G use more data than 4G?

The same video at the same resolution uses the same data on either network. What changes is behaviour: faster speeds nudge people towards higher resolutions, and that is where the extra usage comes from.

Per minute figures are typical values for each activity at the quality stated. Your own usage will vary with resolution, network conditions and app settings.
