5G coverage in Pakistan is real but narrow. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority concluded the Next Generation Mobile Services spectrum auction and awarded licences to Jazz, Zong and Ufone in March 2026, and commercial service followed within weeks in the largest cities.

Which cities have 5G in Pakistan?

Commercial service launched first in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi, and has since extended to a total of 22 cities running on roughly 449 active tower sites. Expansion to further urban centres is happening in phases rather than all at once.

The word "city" is doing heavy lifting there. A city appearing on the list does not mean the whole city is covered. It means at least some towers in it carry 5G, usually in commercial districts and denser residential areas first.

For scale: Pakistan has tens of thousands of mobile cell sites in total. Around 449 of them carry 5G. That ratio is the honest picture of where the rollout stands.

Which networks have 5G in Pakistan?

Three. Jazz, Zong and Ufone secured spectrum in the March 2026 auction and are rolling out. Telenor Pakistan was not part of that award, so Telenor customers wanting 5G currently need to move networks.

How do you check 5G coverage in your area?

Stand where you actually use your phone and watch the status bar. A 5G indicator is the only proof that matters, because published coverage maps describe cities rather than the specific tower nearest you.

3. Restart the handset so it re-registers with the network.
4. Watch the status bar at home, at work, and anywhere else you spend real time.
5. Ask the helpline if it never appears: 333 on Ufone, 111 on Jazz, 310 on Zong.

Do not judge coverage from one spot. People conclude their area has 5G because it appeared once outside a shopping centre, then wonder why it never shows up at home.

Is 5G worth having where coverage is patchy?

Marginally. On a congested urban 4G cell the practical difference is real but smaller than the marketing suggests, and at the edge of a 5G footprint your phone spends battery hunting for a signal it keeps losing.

My honest read: if 5G shows up reliably where you live or work, use it. If it flickers in and out, set your phone to automatic and stop thinking about it. Chasing bars is not a good use of anyone's afternoon.

What genuinely benefits is anything large and impatient. Big downloads, video calls that currently stutter, and using your phone as a hotspot all improve noticeably on a solid 5G connection.

What does 5G cost in Pakistan right now?

Nothing extra. Operators are serving 5G through existing data bundles during the initial rollout, so there is no separate package to buy and no activation code to dial. Your current bundle simply runs faster where the network supports it.

There are 3.81 million 5G ready smartphones in the country, and locally manufactured 5G devices passed 961,326 units by May 2026. Samsung accounts for 396,268 of those locally made units and Vivo for 248,508.
