Tool
IBCC Equivalence Calculator
Convert your O or A Level grades into Pakistani marks. The part other calculators get wrong is the top grade: A star is not one number. For 2026 papers IBCC set it per subject and per level, and this uses those figures.
| Subject | Grade | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Physics | A* | 95 (2026 rate) |
| Chemistry | A* | 94 (2026 rate) |
| Mathematics | A* | 94 (2026 rate) |
Across 3 counted subjects
283 marks, averaging 94.3 per cent
This converts grades to marks using IBCC notification 1409 of 27 July 2026, which applies to Year 2026 examinations. It is not an equivalence certificate. Which subjects count toward the figure on the certificate is a separate IBCC rule, so treat this as the per subject arithmetic rather than the result.
Why A star is the number that trips people up
IBCC’s standing conversion table gives a figure for every grade except the top one. A star and grade 9 are listed only as “above 90”. The actual mark is issued separately for each examination year, which is why an estimate made from the general table is always wrong at the top.
For Year 2026 papers the range is 93 to 95, and it is not uniform. A star in A Level Physics is 95. A star in A Level Computer Science is 93. Two marks a subject sounds small until it decides which side of a merit list you land on, and students routinely assume every A star is worth the same.
Note also that the compulsory subjects, English, Urdu, Pakistan Studies and Islamiyat, carry SSC figures only. This tool hides them at A Level rather than quietly applying the elective rate, because that would be inventing a number IBCC has not published.
Frequently asked questions
How many marks is an A star worth in IBCC equivalence?
It depends on the subject and the level. For Year 2026 papers IBCC set A star at 95 for A Level Physics, 94 for most other subjects, and 93 for A Level Computer Science and for O Level English and Urdu.
Why do other calculators give a single A star figure?
Because IBCC's standing table only says A star is above 90. The exact number is issued separately for each examination year, and most calculators never load it.
What are the marks for A, B, C, D and E?
A is 85, B is 75, C is 65, D is 55 and E is 45. These do not change year to year. F and G carry no equivalence.
What about numeric GCSE grades?
Grade 9 is treated like A star and takes the subject specific 2026 figure. Then 8 is 87, 7 is 82, 6 is 77, 5 is 70, 4 is 60, 3 is 50 and 2 is 40. Grade 1 carries no equivalence.
Do these figures apply to my 2027 exams?
No. The A star marks here are for Year 2026 examinations under notification 1409. IBCC issues a fresh notification for each year, so check for a newer one.
Is this the same as my equivalence certificate?
No. This is the grade to marks conversion. Which subjects count toward the certificate percentage is a separate IBCC rule, so the certificate is IBCC's to issue.
What about IB or Advanced Placement?
IBCC's notification says the highest grade awarded in other foreign qualifications, including IB and AP, is treated on the same analogy.
Next steps
A star and grade 9 figures from IBCC Notification No. IBCC/CF/7-51/2024/1409 dated 27 July 2026, for Year 2026 examinations, read on 21 August 2026. Remaining grades from IBCC’s standing conversion table. Pakistan Erais not affiliated with IBCC, and the equivalence certificate is IBCC’s to issue.
