UK Visa Refused in Pakistan: Ask for a Review, Appeal or Reapply
UK visa refused in Pakistan? Student and work visas get an £80 administrative review within 28 days, visit visas must reapply, family visas can go to appeal.

If your UK student or work visa is refused while you are in Pakistan, you can usually ask for an administrative review within 28 days for £80. A visit visa refusal has no administrative review, so you fix the reasons and reapply. Family visa refusals on human rights grounds can be appealed to a tribunal for £82 or £144.
A UK visa refusal hurts twice. You lose the fee, and the refusal sits on your record for every later application. The worst move is to reapply the next week with the same papers. Read your refusal letter line by line first, because it tells you which route is open to you and how long you have.
| Your visa | Your option | Deadline | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Student, Graduate, Skilled Worker | Administrative review | 28 days | £80 |
| Standard Visitor | Reapply with new evidence | None | £135 again |
| Family visa, human rights claim | Tribunal appeal | 28 days from outside the UK | £82 or £144 |
| Any route | Fresh application | None | Full fee again |
Your refusal letter decides which route is open
The Home Office's refusal letter states whether you can ask for an administrative review or appeal. If it says neither, you cannot challenge the decision through those routes and the practical choice is a new, stronger application.
Look for three things in the letter. First, the paragraph numbers of the rules you were refused under. Second, the evidence the officer says was missing or not believed. Third, a section titled "administrative review" or "appeal rights". Keep the Global Web Form reference, the GWF number, because every next step asks for it.
Suppose the officer was not satisfied that the funds were genuinely yours, or that you would leave the UK at the end. Those are evidence problems. They can be fixed.

Administrative review costs £80 and must start within 28 days
An administrative review asks a different Home Office officer to check whether the first officer made a caseworking error, meaning they applied the rules or guidance wrongly. It costs £80 and you must apply online within 28 days of getting the decision.
Under Appendix AR of the Immigration Rules, the routes that can be reviewed include Student, Graduate, Skilled Worker, Global Talent, High Potential Individual, Youth Mobility, the religious worker routes and several others. You must be outside the UK and have applied from outside the UK.
- Find the review section in your refusal letter.
- Note your GWF reference number.
- Apply on the gov.uk administrative review form within 28 days.
- Pay the £80 fee by card.
- Explain exactly which rule or document the officer got wrong.
Do not expect a quick answer. Gov.uk currently says a review can take 12 months or more, and the Home Office will update you if there is no decision within six months. A review only looks at your original application. New documents are considered only in narrow cases, so a review is the wrong tool if your file was weak.
One trap catches many students. If you make any new visa application while the review is pending, your review request is withdrawn and the £80 is not refunded.

A refused visit visa cannot be reviewed, so reapply with better evidence
The Visitor route is not on the Appendix AR list of reviewable routes. If your Standard Visitor visa is refused, there is no administrative review and no tribunal appeal. You pay £135 again and submit a new application that answers each refusal reason.
Reapplying works only if something has changed. Answer each line of the refusal with a document:
- Money doubted: six months of bank statements that show where large deposits came from, not a sudden lump sum.
- Ties doubted: an employer letter with leave dates, a business registration, property papers or family duties in Pakistan.
- Purpose unclear: a clear invitation letter and a day by day plan for a short visit.
- Previous refusal: declare it honestly. Hiding it can be treated as deception, which is far harder to fix than a refusal.
The visitor form, the £135 fee and the document list are the same as the first time, set out in the UK visit visa application from Pakistan. And note what changed on 8 October 2026: a visitor coming for training no longer has to prove the course is unavailable in Pakistan.

Family visa refusals can go to a tribunal appeal
If your refusal was of a human rights claim, which includes most spouse and family visas, you can appeal to the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber). From outside the UK you have 28 days from receiving the letter. The fee is £82 without a hearing or £144 with one.
The tribunal is independent of the Home Office. A judge hears both sides. Appeals are made online on gov.uk, and help with fees is available in some cases. An appeal can take months. If the refusal was only about a missing document, such as income evidence, a fresh application may be faster. Ask a regulated immigration adviser before you choose, because a new application can affect a pending challenge.

Students should talk to the university before reapplying
A student refusal now also matters to your university. UK sponsors must keep visa refusals under 5 per cent, so a university may not issue a fresh CAS after a refusal, or may withdraw the old one. Email the admissions or compliance team with your refusal letter before paying anything new.
If the university agrees, fix the reason and reapply on a new CAS. The fee, the funds and the TB test steps follow the usual UK Student visa route from Pakistan. From 30 November 2026 the monthly funds rise, so check the amount on the date you reapply. For a work visa refusal, check the salary and job code against the UK Skilled Worker visa rules before your employer issues a new certificate of sponsorship.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 10 October 2026, about 9:00 pm PKT. Administrative review rules, the £80 fee, the 28 day limit and the 12 month wait are from gov.uk's administrative review page, and the list of reviewable routes from Appendix AR, paragraph AR 1.1. Tribunal fees and deadlines are from gov.uk's appeal a decision online page. The £135 visit visa fee is from gov.uk's Standard Visitor page.
