Pakistan is last of nine teams in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 table, on 4.63 per cent. It has played 9 Tests, won 2 and lost 7, and lost 19 points for slow over rates. That leaves 5 points out of a possible 108. Australia lead on 80 per cent.

We read the official ICC standings on 10 October 2026, a month before Pakistan's two home Tests against Sri Lanka. The rest of this page explains how the table works, how Pakistan got here, and exactly what the Sri Lanka series can change, with our own sums for every result.

The World Test Championship table as of 10 October 2026

Australia top the table with 80 per cent from 10 Tests, ahead of South Africa and New Zealand. Pakistan is ninth and last, below West Indies. Teams are ranked by the percentage of available points they have won, not by total points, because they play different numbers of Tests.

The ICC says the top two teams at the end of the cycle play the final in 2027. A win is worth 12 points, a tie 6 and a draw 4.

How the points percentage is worked out

The points percentage, or PCT, is points won divided by the points a team could have won. Every Test is worth 12, so Pakistan's 9 Tests were worth 108. Two wins gave 24 points, the ICC took 19 away, and 5 out of 108 is 4.63 per cent.

Here is the same sum, step by step:

  1. Tests played: 9, so the maximum is 9 times 12, which is 108 points.
  2. Points earned on the field: 2 wins times 12, which is 24 points.
  3. Over-rate deductions shown by the ICC: 19 points.
  4. Points left: 24 minus 19, which is 5.
  5. Percentage: 5 divided by 108, which is 4.63 per cent.

Without the deductions, Pakistan would be on 22.22 per cent, just above West Indies. So the penalties alone have cost Pakistan eighth place, by our count.

Slow over rates cost Pakistan 19 points

The ICC table shows 19 points deducted from Pakistan, the most of any team. England have lost 14 and West Indies 2. Under the WTC rules, a team loses one point for every over it is short of the required rate at the end of a Test.

The largest single penalty is reported to be 11 points from the third Test at Edgbaston in September, when Pakistan were 11 overs short. Players were also fined half their match fees. We could not find the ICC's own notice of that sanction, or which matches account for the other 8 points, so we treat the split as reported.

This is the easiest problem to fix. Bowling the overs on time costs nothing in skill. Yet 19 points is almost the value of two Test wins.

Pakistan's nine Tests in this cycle: 2 wins and 7 defeats

Pakistan's run in this cycle covers home Tests against South Africa, two Tests in Bangladesh, two in the West Indies and three in England. The only wins came at home against South Africa and in Port of Spain. Since October 2025, Pakistan have lost seven of nine.

SeriesTestsResult for Pakistan
South Africa in Pakistan, October 202521 win, 1 defeat (implied by the ICC totals)
Pakistan in Bangladesh, May 20262Lost by 104 runs and by 78 runs
Pakistan in West Indies, July and August 20262Lost by 90 runs, won by 8 wickets
Pakistan in England, August and September 20263Lost by an innings and 103, by 194 runs and by 8 wickets

The England tour hurt most. Babar Azam's side lost all three Tests, as we noted after the drawn series in the West Indies that came before it.

What the two Sri Lanka Tests in November can change

Two wins against Sri Lanka would lift Pakistan to 21.97 per cent, enough to pass West Indies' current 20.83 and climb to eighth. Any other result keeps Pakistan last unless West Indies drop. Pakistan cannot reach the top two from these two Tests alone.

The Tests are in Rawalpindi from 9 to 13 November and Lahore from 17 to 21 November, as set out in the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Test series dates and venues. Each is worth 12 points, so Pakistan will have 11 Tests and a maximum of 132 points after them. Our sums assume no new deductions.

Pakistan's World Test Championship percentage after the Sri Lanka Tests: 21.97 if they win both, 12.88 for a win and a loss, 3.79 if they lose both

Sri Lanka come in seventh on 33.33 per cent under their new Test captain, as covered in the Kusal Mendis appointment. If they lose both Tests, their own figure falls to 25 per cent by our count.

Common questions

Where is Pakistan in the WTC points table?

Ninth and last, on 4.63 per cent, in the ICC standings we read on 10 October 2026. West Indies are eighth on 20.83 per cent.

Why does Pakistan have only 5 points after 2 wins?

Two wins earned 24 points, but the ICC deducted 19 for slow over rates. That leaves 5 points from a possible 108.

How many points is a Test win worth in the WTC?

12 points. A tie is worth 6 and a draw 4. Teams are ranked by percentage of points won, not total points.

Can Pakistan still reach the World Test Championship final?

Not on current form. Even two wins against Sri Lanka only lift Pakistan to 21.97 per cent, far below the top two teams on 80 and 75.

When does Pakistan play its next WTC Test?

On 9 November 2026 against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. The second Test starts on 17 November in Lahore.

Who is top of the WTC 2025-27 table?

Australia, on 80 per cent with 8 wins from 10 Tests. South Africa are second on 75 per cent.
