Airblue Medical Rules in Pakistan: Pregnancy Limit 36 Weeks, Heart Surgery 14 Days, Knee Surgery 6 Weeks
Airblue needs a certificate from 28 weeks of pregnancy and bars travel from 37 weeks. Heart, eye, bone and abdominal surgery each have a wait. See every rule.

Airblue lets a woman with a single uncomplicated pregnancy fly up to 27 weeks without a medical certificate, needs a gynaecologist's certificate from 28 to 36 weeks, and does not accept travel from 37 weeks. Surgery and illness have their own waiting periods, from 24 hours for angiography to 6 weeks after major hip or knee surgery.
Families in Pakistan often book a flight and only then remember that a mother is 30 weeks pregnant or a father had a heart procedure last month. We read the health and travel page on airblue.com on 21 October 2026. The rules below are the airline's own, and a doctor must still confirm that you are fit to fly.
Pregnancy rules change at 28, 35 and 37 weeks
For a single uncomplicated pregnancy, Airblue needs no certificate up to 27 weeks. From 28 to 34 weeks it needs a gynaecologist's certificate with the due date and fitness to travel. From 35 to 36 weeks the certificate must be time bound. From 37 weeks it will not carry you.
| Pregnancy type | No certificate | Certificate needed | Time-bound certificate | Not accepted |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single, uncomplicated | Up to 27 weeks | 28 to 34 weeks | 35 to 36 weeks | 37 weeks or more |
| Multiple, uncomplicated | Up to 27 weeks | 28 to 30 weeks | 31 to 32 weeks | 33 weeks or more |
A multiple pregnancy, such as twins, has a lower limit. A complicated multiple pregnancy depends on how serious the case is, and the page gives no numbers. The page does not say how recent a time bound certificate must be, so ask the airline. Our guide to PIA's rule for pregnant passengers at 35 weeks shows how another airline handles the same issue.

Heart patients can fly again from 24 hours to 14 days after treatment
After angiography Airblue says you are fit to travel after 24 hours. After angioplasty it is 3 days with a cardiac physician's certificate. After a heart attack, stroke or angina, 3 days if uncomplicated, with a fitness certificate. After bypass surgery it is 14 days.
Cardiac failure needs a cardiac physician's certificate confirming you can fly. Ask your doctor to write the certificate with the date of the procedure on it, and carry the original. The page does not say how the airline checks it at the airport, so keep copies in your hand bag, not in checked luggage.
Waiting periods after surgery run from 24 hours to 6 weeks
Airblue sets a different wait for each type of operation. Cosmetic and hair transplant procedures need 24 hours. Cataract or corneal laser needs 48 hours. Laparoscopic abdominal surgery needs 7 days. Most other major operations need 14 days, and hip, ankle or knee surgery needs 6 weeks.
| Operation | Wait before flying |
|---|---|
| Hair transplant, cosmetic | 24 hours, with surgeon's letter |
| Cataract or corneal laser | 48 hours |
| Laparoscopic abdominal | 7 days |
| Intraocular eye surgery | 10 days |
| ENT, chest, open abdominal | 14 days |
| Brain or spinal | 14 days |
| Major hip, ankle or knee | 6 weeks |
Each one needs a medical or fitness certificate. For same day travel after a cosmetic procedure, the airline asks for a recommendation from an airport health authority doctor as well as the surgeon's letter.

A fracture needs a cast for 48 hours, and a stiff cast needs three seats
Airblue allows travel 48 hours after a cast is applied. Within 24 hours of a fracture you can travel with a splint, a medical certificate and detailed notes. A cast that cannot bend requires three seats, which means buying three tickets.
Tell the airline when you book, not at the airport. The airline says special assistance or clearance must be declared at booking or at least 48 hours before departure, or boarding may be denied. For anything on this page, make that call early on 111-247-258, the contact centre number.
Some conditions mean you cannot fly at all
Airblue says passengers who need pneumatic or electric medical devices are not permitted to travel, because they cannot be operated on board. Stretchers are not accommodated. People in the contagious stage of an illness may not travel. A urinary catheter in place needs a medical certificate.
Portable oxygen is allowed up to 5 kg with a valid medical certificate, in hand luggage only. Liquid oxygen is not allowed. Asthma needs no clearance, but tell staff at check-in. Blind and deaf passengers need no medical clearance, and staff assist after check-in. Bring hearing aids.
- Ask your doctor whether you are fit to fly on your date.
- Get a certificate with the diagnosis, date and a fitness statement.
- Call 111-247-258 at booking or at least 48 hours before departure.
- Keep the original certificate in your hand bag.
- Check in early and tell staff about your needs.

If you are flying for Umrah while pregnant, check the return date
The page says pregnant women on an Umrah or UAE visit visa may not be allowed to travel if the return flight falls within or after the airline's restricted period. It does not state that period in weeks, so we cannot give it.
That makes the return date the thing to check. A woman who is 25 weeks pregnant on the outward flight may be past the limit by the time she returns. Our guide to the Umrah visa process for Pakistanis explains the booking side.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 21 October 2026. Every week count, waiting period and device rule comes from the health and travel page at airblue.com, which we read on that date, and the contact centre number from its customer service page. We could not find how recent a time bound certificate must be, how the airline checks it, or the airline's restricted period for Umrah visa holders, so we have not stated them. We did not call Airblue. This page is information, not medical advice.
