In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the biggest regular traffic fine is Rs 1,000, charged on public service vehicles for offences such as jumping a signal or driving without a licence. A motorcyclist without a helmet pays Rs 200. A car driver using a hand-held phone pays Rs 500.

Those figures come from the fines list published by AJK Traffic Police on the AJK Police website. We read all 52 entries on 10 October 2026 and sorted them by what drivers actually get stopped for. Every amount below is copied from that list.

The AJK traffic fines are far lower than in Punjab or Islamabad. That does not mean they can be ignored. Repeat offences carry their own fine, and an unpaid ticket still sits on the record.

AJK traffic fines depend on the type of vehicle

The AJK list sets three fines for most offences: one for motorcycles, one for cars and jeeps, and one for public service vehicles and carriers. Buses, wagons and trucks almost always pay the most, often double the car fine.

The highest regular AJK traffic fine is Rs 1,000, charged on public service vehicles

A public service vehicle (PSV) is any vehicle that carries paying passengers, such as a bus, coaster, wagon or taxi. Private and public goods carriers fall in the same column.

OffenceMotorcycleCar or jeepPSV or carrier

Violating a traffic signalRs 200Rs 500Rs 1,000
Driving on the wrong side of the roadRs 200Rs 500Rs 750
Reckless and negligent drivingRs 300Rs 500Rs 1,000
Driving without a driving licenceRs 200Rs 500Rs 1,000
Driving an unregistered vehicleRs 200Rs 500Rs 1,000
Underage drivingRs 300Rs 500Rs 1,000
Hand-held mobile phone while drivingRs 200Rs 500Rs 1,000
Obstructing trafficRs 200Rs 500Rs 1,000
Jumping the traffic queueRs 200Rs 300Rs 500

Everyday car offences cost Rs 200 to Rs 500 in AJK

For a private car, everyday offences such as speeding, signals, phones and a missing licence cost Rs 500 each in AJK. Lane, line and zebra crossing violations cost Rs 300. Lights at night cost Rs 300.

AJK traffic fines for a private car or jeep for five common offences
  • Driving at night without proper lights: Rs 200 on a motorcycle, Rs 300 in a car, Rs 500 in a PSV.
  • Violating a line, lane or zebra crossing: Rs 200, Rs 300 and Rs 500.
  • Emitting excessive smoke: Rs 200, Rs 300 and Rs 750.
  • Plying a vehicle where it is prohibited: Rs 200, Rs 300 and Rs 750.
  • Failing to observe a stop sign: Rs 200 for every vehicle type.

Some entries list only one or two amounts. Driving a motorcycle without a helmet is Rs 200. Driving without a fitness certificate is Rs 1,000, which applies in practice to commercial vehicles. Tinted, black or covered glass is listed at Rs 500. Carrying more passengers than allowed in a PSV is listed at Rs 500 and Rs 750.

Small offences carry Rs 50 to Rs 100 fines

Many AJK traffic offences carry flat fines of Rs 50 or Rs 100 whatever the vehicle. These include failing to give way, wrong turns, horn use in a quiet zone and refusing to show a licence.

OffenceFine, all vehicles
Failing to yield to other vehicles or to pedestriansRs 50
Obstructing an emergency vehicleRs 50
Failing to stop for a school busRs 50
Improper U-turn, wrong-lane turn or improper lane useRs 50
Blowing a horn in a prohibited zoneRs 50
Driving without insurance coverRs 50
Wrong way in a one-way streetRs 100
Refusing to show a driving licenceRs 100
Failing to stop when traffic police signalRs 100
Pressure horn or musical hornRs 100
Any other rule not listedRs 100

Two entries look out of step with the rest. Obstructing an ambulance costs only Rs 50, the same as a wrong turn. Driving uninsured also costs Rs 50. Neither fine reflects the real risk. Third-party cover protects you if you hit someone, and a motorcycle insurance policy costs little next to one accident claim.

Repeating an offence adds a Rs 400 fine

The AJK list has a separate Rs 400 fine for repeating the same violation, for every vehicle type. Abetting a violation, meaning helping or encouraging someone else to break the rule, is listed at Rs 500 and Rs 750.

So a motorcyclist caught twice without a licence could pay Rs 200 and then Rs 200 plus Rs 400, on our reading of the list. The page does not say how long police look back for a repeat. Ask the officer writing the ticket if it matters to you.

Driving with loud music in a city area is listed at Rs 200, with a reference to the 12th Schedule, Part 2. That is the schedule of fines in the motor vehicles law the list is based on.

How to deal with an AJK traffic ticket

Keep the ticket, pay it the way the ticket tells you, and keep the receipt. If you think the ticket was wrong or an officer behaved badly, file a complaint with AJK Police online or at a district redressal centre.

  1. Check that the offence written on the ticket matches what happened and the fine matches the list above.
  2. Pay through the method printed on the ticket and keep the receipt with your vehicle papers.
  3. For a dispute, use the online complaint form at complaints.ajkpolice.gok.pk. It asks for your name, father's name, CNIC, mobile number, email and the complaint, and lets you attach files.
  4. For an in-person complaint, go to the Police Complaint Redressal Centre at the SSP office of your district.

The fines page does not explain payment channels or deadlines, and we could not find them elsewhere on the AJK Police site. Ask at the district traffic office if the ticket is unclear.

Drivers who cross into Punjab or Islamabad should not expect AJK rates. The Punjab traffic fines list is far higher for the same offences, and Islamabad e-challans arrive by camera without anyone stopping you.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 10 October 2026. We read the full Traffic Violations and Fines List, 52 entries, on the AJK Police Traffic Police page, plus the AJK Police Redressal Centers page and the online complaint form. The page carries no date, so we cannot say when these amounts were last revised. Where an entry lists fewer than three amounts, we have reported it as written rather than guessing which vehicle it applies to.
