Short answer: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Mardan and BISE Malakand have both postponed the SSC Annual-II examination 2026 papers that were due to start on Monday 12 October. Each board says the new dates will come later. Do not go to your exam centre until your own board posts a revised date sheet.

Picture a Class 10 student in Mardan or Swat who packed a pen, a roll number slip and a geometry box on Sunday night. The paper was due at nine on Monday morning. By Sunday afternoon the board had already cancelled it. That is the position for students under these two boards today.

We read the two boards' official notices on their own websites on 12 October 2026. This report covers what each notice says, what it leaves out, and what a student or parent can do while the new schedule is pending.

Both boards postponed the papers due on 12 October

BISE Mardan and BISE Malakand each issued a press release on Sunday 11 October 2026. Both say the SSC Annual-II papers scheduled from Monday 12 October are postponed until further orders. Neither notice gives a new date.

SSC means Secondary School Certificate, the matric exam for Class 9 and Class 10. "Annual-II" is the second annual sitting, which students use to clear failed papers or improve marks. Both notices apply to this sitting only.

BISE Mardan says the revised schedule will be announced later

The Mardan notice is a one page press release dated 11 October. It says the revised schedule will be announced later and sent to all concerned through the board's website and its official Facebook page. Candidates and heads of institutions are told to stay updated there.

The board's own news list shows how fast this changed. On 5 October it posted that the exams would now begin on Monday 12 October. On 11 October it posted that the same papers were postponed. So the date a student wrote down last week may already be wrong.

The Mardan list also shows that forms for the Intermediate (HSSC) second annual exam are open, with the last date at normal fee given as 20 October 2026. That sitting is separate from the matric papers and is not postponed by this notice.

BISE Malakand covers all SSC Annual-II papers

The Malakand notice is in Urdu and appears on the board’s news list under 11 October. It says all papers of the SSC Annual-II 2026 examination, which the board was to hold from Monday 12 October, are postponed until further orders. New dates and a revised date sheet will be announced by the board.

It also tells students, parents, heads of institutions, superintendents and invigilators to follow the board's instructions and to watch the board website and its official Facebook page for announcements. Malakand had already moved its schedule once this month. Our report on the revised SSC Annual-II date sheet from Malakand covers that earlier change, which this notice now overtakes.

What the notices do not tell you

Neither notice states a reason, and neither gives a new date. We will not guess at either. A postponement "until further orders" has no end date built in, so the only safe plan is to wait for the revised sheet.

That matters for roll number slips. A slip issued for 12 October stays valid as your identity at the centre, but the paper date printed on it will not hold. Wait for the revised sheet and check the date and time again before you travel.

Caution that BISE Mardan and Malakand have not given a reason or a new date for the postponed SSC Annual-II papers

What to do while the new dates are pending

Keep your slip, keep revising and watch only the official board channels. Three things help: confirm which board your school falls under, check the website once a day and ignore messages that give a date without the board's name on it.

  1. Confirm your board. Your roll number slip and your school or college office will tell you whether you sit under Mardan, Malakand or another board.
  2. Open the board's website and find the press release or notification section.
  3. Look for a revised date sheet, not a forwarded picture on a messaging app.
  4. Keep your roll number slip and admit card safe. Print another copy if the board reissues it.
  5. Tell your school or college office, which receives the board's circulars first.
Five steps for students after BISE Mardan and Malakand postponed SSC Annual-II papers

Students in Peshawar should read the board's own sheet carefully. Our note on the BISE Peshawar SSC Annual-II date sheet lists its papers from 12 to 31 October, and that sheet was unchanged on the board's site when we checked.

Common questions

Is the SSC Annual-II exam cancelled in Mardan and Malakand?

No. Both boards say the papers are postponed until further orders. The exam will be held later, on dates the boards have not yet announced.

Has BISE Peshawar also postponed its papers?

We saw no postponement notice on the BISE Peshawar website at about noon on 12 October. Its latest date sheet, posted on 7 October, starts on 12 October. Check the board's site for any change.

Why were the papers postponed?

The notices do not give a reason. We have not found one on either board's website, so we do not state one.

Will my roll number slip change?

The boards have not said. Keep your current slip. If a board reissues slips with new dates, it will announce that on its website.

Where will the new date sheet appear?

Mardan says its website and its official Facebook page. Malakand says its official website and its official Facebook page. Use only those channels.

Does this affect the HSSC second annual exam?

The notices cover SSC papers only. Intermediate admissions at Mardan continue, with 20 October listed as the last date at normal fee. For the neighbouring board's inter sitting, see the BISE Peshawar Inter second annual exam from 18 November.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the BISE Mardan press release and the BISE Malakand press release on 12 October 2026, and the BISE Peshawar home page the same day. Postponed exams are rescheduled by notice, so check your board's site again before you set out.
