Pakistan Era's technology desk covers what readers in Pakistan actually need to know: what a phone costs here after PTA tax, whether an app or payment works locally, what a new PTA or telecom rule changes, and how to fix a problem step by step.
We are hiring a technology journalist who tests things, reads the regulator's own pages and turns launches and policy into clear, useful reporting.
What you will do
- Report launches, prices and availability in Pakistan from brands' own Pakistan pages, with PTA tax and customs rules explained.
- Cover PTA, telecom operators, broadband, 5G, digital payments and app policy changes, separating announcements from notified rules.
- Write how-to guides that are tested: check, register, pay, fix, recover.
- Verify every price, fee and rule at the official source and record the evidence trail.
- Keep evergreen guides current as prices and rules change, and publish corrections openly.
- Flag scams: fake apps, lookalike portals and SMS fraud.
What we are looking for
- A master's degree (MS, MPhil or MA) in Journalism, Mass Communication, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
- At least 2 years of published technology reporting or writing. Please share links.
- Excellent written English. Working Urdu is expected.
- A strong working knowledge of Pakistan's telecom and digital landscape: PTA, DIRBS, operators, wallets and app stores.
- A testing mindset: you try the steps yourself before telling readers to follow them.
- Able to explain technical subjects in short, simple sentences.
Good to have
- Basic SEO, Google Search Console and CMS experience.
- Comfort reading regulatory documents and spec sheets.
- Photography or screenshot skills for step-by-step guides.
