Live broiler chicken cost Rs 402.93 a kilo on average in Pakistan in October 2026, up 16.28% from Rs 346.52 in September, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Farm eggs averaged Rs 260 a dozen, up 3.13% in the month but 21.07% cheaper than a year ago.
PBS published these monthly averages for 17 cities on 2 November 2026, alongside its October inflation figures. Chicken was the single biggest food price rise in the month, and we downloaded the PBS sheet the same evening to see where it bit hardest. Below are chicken and egg prices in every city, the change from September and from last year, beef and mutton for comparison, and how to work out the price of dressed meat from the live rate.
Live chicken averaged Rs 402.93 a kilo in October 2026
The PBS national average for live farm broiler chicken was Rs 402.93 a kilo in October 2026. It was Rs 346.52 in September and Rs 329.15 in October 2025. That is a rise of Rs 56.41 in one month and Rs 73.78 in a year.

Note that this is the live bird rate, which is what PBS tracks. The price of cleaned meat at a shop is higher because the feathers, blood and some organs are removed. In the October inflation figures, chicken rose 19.38% in cities and 16.91% in villages, the largest food rise in both in Pakistan's October 2026 inflation figures.
Chicken and egg prices in every city in October 2026
Lahore had the cheapest live chicken at Rs 363.21 a kilo and Khuzdar the dearest at Rs 475.33. For eggs, Hyderabad was cheapest at Rs 248.85 a dozen and Khuzdar dearest at Rs 283.89. Karachi was among the three dearest cities for both.
| City | Live chicken, per kg | Eggs, per dozen |

| Faisalabad | Rs 397.34 | Rs 263.79 |
| Sargodha | Rs 386.29 | Rs 259.38 |
| Multan | Rs 393.29 | Rs 253.07 |
| Bahawalpur | Rs 366.34 | Rs 249.64 |
| Karachi | Rs 437.91 | Rs 269.82 |

| Peshawar | Rs 406.32 | Rs 275.86 |
| Bannu | Rs 409.62 | Rs 250.65 |
| Quetta | Rs 434.87 | Rs 255.45 |
| Khuzdar | Rs 475.33 | Rs 283.89 |

Taking a simple average of the cities in each province, live chicken cost about Rs 381 in Punjab, Rs 422 in Sindh, Rs 408 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Rs 455 in Balochistan. That grouping is our own arithmetic from the PBS city figures.
Eggs rose 3% in October but are 21% cheaper than last year
Farm eggs averaged Rs 260 a dozen in October 2026, against Rs 252.10 in September and Rs 329.42 in October 2025. They rose Rs 7.90 in the month but are Rs 69.42 cheaper than a year ago. That is about Rs 21.67 an egg.

So over the year, eggs and chicken have moved in opposite directions. PBS does not explain the gap, and neither do we. Weekly city prices for eggs are in the egg price for the week of 22 October.
Beef and mutton barely moved while chicken jumped
Beef with bone averaged Rs 1,277.23 a kilo in October, up only 0.51% from September. Mutton averaged Rs 2,400.40, up 0.41%. Live chicken, at 16.28%, rose more than thirty times faster than either in the month.
| Item | October 2026 | September 2026 | October 2025 | Change in a month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Live chicken, per kg | Rs 402.93 | Rs 346.52 | Rs 329.15 | +16.28% |
| Eggs, per dozen | Rs 260.00 | Rs 252.10 | Rs 329.42 | +3.13% |
| Beef with bone, per kg | Rs 1,277.23 | Rs 1,270.77 | Rs 1,136.36 | +0.51% |
| Mutton, per kg | Rs 2,400.40 | Rs 2,390.53 | Rs 2,089.82 | +0.41% |
Even after its jump, a kilo of live chicken costs less than a third of a kilo of beef. Weekly city prices for meat are in the chicken price for the week of 22 October.
Work out the meat price from the live chicken rate
Shops quote both a live rate (zinda) and a meat rate. The meat rate is higher because a live bird loses weight when it is cleaned. You can check whether a meat price is reasonable from the live rate in four steps.
- Find today's live rate in your city, or use the PBS October average from the table.
- Ask the shop what weight of meat you get from a bird of a set live weight.
- Divide the live price of the bird by the meat weight to get the meat price per kilo.
- Compare that with the meat rate on the shop's board.
For example, if a 2 kg live bird costs Rs 806 at the October average and gives 1.4 kg of meat, the meat costs about Rs 576 a kilo. The 1.4 kg yield is only an example, not a PBS or official figure, so ask your own shop. The city price comparison for chicken, eggs, onions and tomatoes shows how to read the weekly PBS sheet for the latest rates.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 2 November 2026 at about 23:20 PKT. We downloaded Average Monthly Prices of 51 Essential Items for October 2026 from the PBS October 2026 inflation release, dated 2 November 2026, and read the rows for live chicken, eggs, beef and mutton. The urban and rural chicken changes come from the PBS Monthly Review for October 2026. Province averages, per egg price and the meat example are our own arithmetic. We did not check shop prices ourselves.
