Short answer: Live broiler chicken cost an average of Rs 444.27 a kilo in Pakistan in the week ended 22 October 2026, up Rs 48.29 or 12.20 per cent in one week. Karachi averaged Rs 510.23, Lahore Rs 398 and Islamabad Rs 437.94. Khuzdar was dearest at Rs 550, and Quetta was the only city where the price fell.

These are the live weight prices the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) collected in 17 cities for its weekly Sensitive Price Indicator, released on 23 October. We read the PBS summary and the city table on 24 October and set each city against the week before. Chicken has now gone up five weeks in a row. The full city list, the five week trend and what the jump costs a family are below.

Chicken price is Rs 444 a kilo on average, up Rs 48 in a week

The national average for live farm broiler was Rs 444.27 a kilo on 22 October 2026, against Rs 395.98 on 15 October. That is a rise of 12.20 per cent, the second biggest of all 51 items this week after LPG. A year ago the same kilo cost Rs 319.64.

Average live broiler chicken price in Pakistan in the week ended 22 October 2026 was Rs 444.27 a kilo

So chicken is now 38.99 per cent dearer than in October 2025. It is also well above PBS's yearly averages. Live chicken averaged Rs 385.92 a kilo across 2025-26 and Rs 420.40 across 2024-25, the PBS city table shows.

One thing to keep in mind. PBS records the price of a live bird by weight. The meat you buy after cleaning costs more per kilo, because the feathers, blood and some parts are removed. PBS does not publish a cleaned meat price, so we do not give one.

Chicken rate in all 17 cities on 22 October 2026

Khuzdar had the dearest live chicken at Rs 550 a kilo, then Karachi at Rs 510.23 and Hyderabad at Rs 486.23. Sialkot was cheapest at Rs 396, with Lahore close at Rs 398. Prices rose in 16 cities and fell only in Quetta.

Live chicken price per kilo in Karachi, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Lahore and Sialkot on 22 October 2026

Karachi saw the biggest jump, Rs 74 a kilo in a week

Karachi's average rose Rs 73.81 a kilo in one week, the largest rupee increase of any city. Faisalabad rose 17.33 per cent, the largest in percentage terms. Faisalabad, Karachi, Bahawalpur, Hyderabad and Multan each rose by more than 15 per cent.

Hyderabad went up Rs 66.65 and Faisalabad Rs 65. Multan and Bahawalpur each rose by close to Rs 60. Lahore and Islamabad went up about Rs 45 to Rs 50, which still left Lahore among the cheapest places in the country.

Quetta was the exception. Its average fell Rs 11.65 to Rs 439.96, but only because it had been the second dearest city a week earlier, at Rs 451.61. PBS does not explain city differences, and we have not found an official reason for this week's rise.

Chicken has risen five weeks in a row, up Rs 104 since September

The national average climbed from Rs 340.63 on 24 September to Rs 444.27 on 22 October, PBS's weekly releases show. That is Rs 103.64, or 30.4 per cent, in four weeks. Every weekly release since 24 September has recorded a rise.

Earlier steps in this run are in our reports on chicken prices on 8 October and weekly inflation on 15 October.

The rise costs a family about Rs 97 more a week

A family that buys 2 kg of live chicken a week now pays about Rs 888.54, up Rs 96.58 from a week ago, by our arithmetic. Over a month of four such purchases, that is about Rs 386 more than at last week's price, and about Rs 829 more than in late September.

Chicken also counts for a lot in the weekly inflation figure. PBS gives it a weight of 3.87 per cent of the whole basket, and this week alone it added 0.41 points to the index. The full picture is in our report on weekly inflation for 22 October.

If you want to check the price where you live before you buy, follow these steps:

  1. Find your city in the table above, or open the PBS city table for the week.
  2. Note the city average and the maximum price PBS found.
  3. Ask your shop for the live weight rate first, then the cleaned meat rate, because they differ.
  4. If a shop charges well above your city's maximum live rate, try another shop or market.
  5. Check again next Friday, when PBS releases the next week's prices.

Your district administration may also issue an official price list for chicken. That list, where one exists, is the legal limit, not the PBS average. We have not checked district lists for this report.
