These are the prices the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) collected in 17 cities for its weekly Sensitive Price Indicator, released on 23 October. Every city, the five week trend and fresh milk prices are below.
Egg price is Rs 262 a dozen, down Rs 1.53 in a week
The national average for farm eggs was Rs 261.86 a dozen on 22 October 2026, against Rs 263.39 on 15 October. That is a fall of 0.58 per cent. A year ago a dozen cost Rs 336.34, so eggs are 22.14 per cent cheaper than in October 2025.

Eggs are also below their recent yearly averages. The PBS city table puts the 2025-26 average at Rs 285.70 a dozen and the 2024-25 average at Rs 290.19. So today's price is about Rs 24 a dozen below last year's average.

Eggs rose four weeks running before this week's dip
The national average climbed from Rs 257.66 on 24 September to Rs 263.39 on 15 October, PBS's weekly releases show. This week's Rs 1.53 fall left eggs Rs 4.20 above the late September level. The swings are small next to chicken's.
| Week ended | Eggs, Rs a dozen | Weekly change |
|---|---|---|
| 24 September | 257.66 | up 2.02% |
| 1 October | 259.52 | up 0.72% |
| 8 October | 260.80 | up 0.49% |

Live chicken, by contrast, jumped 12.20 per cent this week to Rs 444.27 a kilo. The city list is in our report on the chicken price on 22 October. An earlier side by side of both items is in chicken, egg, onion and tomato prices by city.

Fresh milk held at Rs 219 a litre
Fresh milk did not move nationally this week, staying at Rs 218.92 a litre. It is 7.88 per cent dearer than a year ago, when it cost Rs 202.93. Peshawar paid the most at Rs 266.46 a litre and Sargodha the least at Rs 176.60.
Islamabad averaged Rs 256.56, Karachi Rs 240 and Lahore Rs 212.79. Loose yoghurt (dahi) also held, at Rs 257.05 a kilo. Milk carries the largest weight of any item in the SPI, at 18.39 per cent for all households, so a steady milk price keeps the weekly index calmer. The wider weekly picture is in weekly inflation for 22 October.
Eggs cost about Rs 22 each, and a tray of 30 about Rs 655
At the national average, one egg costs about Rs 21.82 and a tray of 30 about Rs 655, by our arithmetic. A family using two dozen a week spends about Rs 524 a week on eggs. A year ago the same two dozen cost about Rs 673.
Shops often sell eggs by the tray or loose, not by the dozen. To compare fairly:
- Divide the tray price by 30, or the loose price by the number of eggs, to get the price of one egg.
- Multiply by 12 to get the dozen price.
- Compare it with your city's average in the table above.
- Check the eggs are farm eggs. Desi eggs cost more and PBS does not track them.
- Look again next Friday, when PBS releases the next week.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We read the PBS SPI executive summary for 22 October 2026 and the city price table on 24 October 2026, along with the 15 October city table and the summaries for 8 October, 1 October and 24 September. City figures are averages from sample markets, not shop prices or official rate lists. Per egg, tray and family costs are our own arithmetic. PBS gives no reasons for price moves.
