The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on 6 November 2026 the ten teams that have qualified directly for the Men's Cricket World Cup 2027, and Pakistan is one of them. West Indies and Ireland are not. They must play a 10-team Qualifier in February 2027, which decides the last four places at the World Cup.

The ICC also confirmed an eight-team Qualifier Play-off in Nepal from 4 to 21 December 2026. One of the teams that comes through this route will join Pakistan's Group A. Below is the full list, the path for every other team, and what it means for Pakistan's World Cup fixtures.

Pakistan is one of ten teams already through

Ten teams have direct places at the 2027 World Cup. Co-hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe got automatic places. The other eight came from the ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings on the cut-off date of 30 September 2026, and Pakistan was inside that top eight.

We read the ICC explainer published on 6 November 2026. It names the eight ranking qualifiers as Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. With South Africa and Zimbabwe, that makes ten.

Namibia is the third host country, but it does not get an automatic place. The ICC lists Namibia in the Play-off. Pakistan was fourth in the ICC ODI team rankings after the October tri-series, as set out in our page on Pakistan's fourth place in the ODI rankings.

West Indies and Ireland must play the Qualifier

West Indies, a two-time ODI world champion, missed the eight ranking places. The ICC says West Indies and Ireland, "the next best teams" in the ODI rankings, go into the 10-team Qualifier in February 2027, with four other teams from League 2 and four from the Play-off.

League 2 is the ICC's three-year ODI league for associate teams. Its top four were USA, Scotland, the Netherlands and Oman. The ICC says Oman took fourth place above Namibia on net run rate, which is the scoring speed difference used to break ties.

  • From the ODI rankings: West Indies, Ireland
  • From League 2: USA, Scotland, the Netherlands, Oman
  • From the Play-off: four teams, still to be decided

The ICC explainer gives no venue and no exact dates for the Qualifier. It says only February 2027.

Eight teams play the Play-off in Nepal from 4 December

The Qualifier Play-off runs from 4 to 21 December 2026 in Nepal, at Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground and Upper Mulpani Cricket Ground. Eight teams play a round robin, and the top four move on to the February Qualifier.

The eight are the bottom four of League 2, Namibia, Nepal, Canada and the UAE, plus four Challenge League teams: Jersey, Kuwait, Italy and Uganda. The ICC says two matches will run at the same time at the two grounds.

Steps from the Nepal Play-off in December 2026 to the February 2027 Qualifier and the World Cup

No Pakistan match is part of either event. The Play-off and the Qualifier matter to Pakistan fans only because they decide the last opponent in Pakistan's group.

One of these teams will play Pakistan on 15 October 2027

Pakistan's third group match is against "Qualifier A" in Bloemfontein on Friday 15 October 2027, according to the ICC fixture list. That team will come out of the Qualifier route, so it could be West Indies, Ireland, a League 2 side or a Play-off team.

The ICC Play-off article of 6 November explains the last step. The winner of the Qualifier goes straight into the World Cup group stage. The second, third and fourth teams play a new Super Series, from 2 to 6 October 2027 in Windhoek, and its winner also joins the group stage.

The ICC pages we read do not say which of those two teams becomes Qualifier A in Pakistan's group. We will add it when the ICC confirms it. Pakistan's other four group opponents are already fixed: Afghanistan, India, Zimbabwe and Australia. All five dates are in our Pakistan World Cup 2027 schedule.

How the route to the World Cup works, step by step

The last four World Cup places take three rounds to fill, starting in December. Here is the order the ICC has set out, from the first ball in Nepal to the group stage in South Africa.

  1. Play-off in Nepal, 4 to 21 December 2026: eight teams, top four move on.
  2. Qualifier in February 2027: ten teams, including West Indies and Ireland.
  3. The Qualifier winner goes straight into the World Cup group stage.
  4. The next three teams play the Super Series in Windhoek, 2 to 6 October 2027.
  5. The Super Series winner joins the group stage, which starts on 7 October 2027.

The ICC explainer says the Qualifier decides "the final four places". Its Play-off article describes only two teams reaching the group stage, the Qualifier winner and the Super Series winner. Read together, the Super Series in Windhoek counts as part of the World Cup, so all four Qualifier teams get there, but only two reach the group stage. The ICC has not explained the wording.

What Pakistan fans should do now

Nothing changes for Pakistan's own matches. The India match in Johannesburg on 10 October 2027 is still the one most fans want to see. The free ICC ticket ballot for the tournament closes on 21 November 2026.

The deadline is 23:59 Central Africa Time, which is 2:59 am on 22 November in Pakistan. Our guide on how to enter the World Cup 2027 ticket ballot from Pakistan takes you through it. Match start times have not been published yet.
