Short answer: You extend a UAE visit visa online through the ICP Smart App or the ICP Smart Services website. The listed fees are AED 100 to apply and AED 500 to extend the entry permit. A tourist or visit permit can be extended once or several times, but the total stay cannot pass 120 days. A family visit visa can go to 180 days.

We read the UAE Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) service pages on 13 October 2026. The rules below come from that page. We did not run an extension.
ICP lets most visit visas be extended online
ICP runs a "Visa Extension" service for entry permits that are eligible. You submit the request through the ICP Smart App or the ICP Smart Services website. The data is retrieved automatically, you check it, attach documents if the system cannot fetch them, pay and get an electronic notice.
If your visa was issued in Dubai, check whether the Dubai immigration authority handles the extension. We did not read Dubai's own pages. Your sponsor or travel agent will know which system issued the visa.

- Attach documents if the system did not fetch them.
- Pay the fees.
- Receive the electronic notice of the extension.
The total stay limit depends on the type of visa
ICP sets a maximum total stay by category. A visit or tourism permit can be extended once or many times, but the total cannot exceed 120 days. A permit to visit a relative or friend can go up to 180 days. The same 180-day limit applies to a permit for exploring job chances, medical treatment, and study or training.

Some permits cannot be extended, including those for border areas, truck drivers, and workers on tourist ships and pleasure boats. A 60-day visa for certain nationalities living outside their own country is not extendable. Look at your visa to see its type before you plan.
Pay AED 100 to apply and AED 500 to extend
ICP lists an application fee of AED 100 for all types of visa extension, and an extend-entry fee of AED 500. We read both as separate charges, so one extension costs AED 600 by our addition. The page does not say how many days one extension adds, so confirm the days before you pay.

You can extend before you arrive, once
If the visa has been issued but you have not yet entered the UAE, ICP lets the validity be extended once for an equivalent period, for a fee of AED 50. This helps if your flight is delayed and the permit would expire before you land.
After you arrive, the other rules apply. You will need your passport and a personal photo, plus the same documents used when the visa was issued, according to the visa type. Do not overstay while you wait
ICP lists a fine of AED 50 for each day after the permitted stay or the entry visa expires. Extend before the expiry date, not after. A request is easier to handle when the permit is still valid.
