A Germany visit visa from Pakistan costs €90 for an adult and €45 for a child aged 6 to 12, paid in rupees in cash at the counter, and the appointment waiting list is free. Applicants from Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir go to the German Embassy in Islamabad. Applicants from Sindh and Balochistan go to the Consulate General in Karachi.

That is the short version. The longer one matters because the German missions reject files for small things: an unsigned passport, a missing family certificate, an undisclosed old refusal. We read the German Missions in Pakistan pages on fees, short-stay visas, visitor visas, tourist visas and airport transit on 24 October 2026. Below is every document they list, which mission takes your file, and the traps that cost people their fee.

The Schengen visa fee for Germany is €90, paid in rupees in cash

The German missions charge €90 for a Schengen (category C) visa and €45 for children aged 6 to 12. The fee is due in Pakistani rupees at the current exchange rate, and both Islamabad and Karachi take it in cash at the counter.

Visa typeFeeHow you pay
Schengen visa (category C), adult€90Cash in PKR at the counter
Schengen visa, child aged 6 to 12€45Cash in PKR at the counter
Airport transit visa (category A)€90Cash in PKR at the counter
Long-term national visa (category D)€75Cash in PKR at the counter
Family reunion, child aged 0 to 17€37.50Cash in PKR at the counter

The missions do not print a fixed rupee amount on the page. They convert at the rate of the day, so carry a little more than the euro figure suggests. Bring exact cash if you can, because you cannot pay by card.

Your province decides whether you apply in Islamabad or Karachi

The German Embassy in Islamabad takes applicants from Islamabad Capital Territory, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. The Consulate General in Karachi takes applicants from Sindh and Balochistan. Both run a free online waiting list.

MissionWho applies thereHow appointments work
German Embassy, IslamabadIslamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad KashmirWaiting list, appointment sent by email later
German Consulate General, KarachiSindh, BalochistanWaiting list, appointments given in order of registration

Gilgit-Baltistan is not named on the page. If you live there, ask the embassy through its contact form before you register, rather than guessing.

You cannot pick a date yourself in Islamabad. You register, you receive an email with your waiting list number, and the embassy sends your final appointment when your turn comes. Karachi works the same way now, because demand outran its counters. One registration per person is enough. A second registration for the same applicant is cancelled, or refused entry on the day.

Registration is free, and anyone charging for it is a fraudster

The German missions say plainly that registering on the waiting list costs nothing. If any person asks you for money at this stage, the missions call that person a fraudster and ask you to report them to the Pakistani police.

Agents still sell "fast appointments". The embassy's warning is direct: fake agents pose as the embassy, offer false registrations and promise quicker dates. None of that moves your place. You do not need an agent to register at all. If you have already paid someone, keep the receipts and messages before you report it.

Germany visit visa documents: the 16 items on the missions' list

For a family or friends visit, the missions list 16 documents, in a set order, with A4 copies. A missing item can mean an immediate refusal, and processing starts only once the file is complete. A tourist file is the same, except hotel bookings and an itinerary replace the invitation.

  1. Current passport and all previous passports, signed, valid at least three months after the visa ends.
  2. Videx online application form, printed and signed, with its barcode page.
  3. Two biometric photos, not older than six months.
  4. Travel health insurance of at least €30,000, covering all Schengen countries.
  5. Invitation: a formal letter of obligation from the host's local Foreigners Office, not older than six months, or an informal signed letter with copies of the host's passport, residence permit and residence certificate.
  6. Confirmed round trip flight reservation.
  7. Employment or university letter stating your position, how long you have been there and permission for the trip.
  8. Copies of pages 1 and 2 of your current passport, and a translated police report for any lost passport.
  9. Copies of every previous visa refusal.
  10. Copy of your CNIC.
  11. Family Registration Certificate, plus marriage certificate or a child's birth certificate where relevant.
  12. List of children, on the missions' template.
  13. List of relatives living abroad, on the missions' template.
  14. Printout of the appointment email, showing your registered address.
  15. Copies of previous visas, including any visa issued on paper.
  16. Six months of bank statements and three months of salary slips.

The Family Registration Certificate trips people up most. The missions want the English version from NADRA, and the steps to get a Family Registration Certificate from NADRA take a visit and a small fee, so do it before your appointment comes through. Government employees should also arrange a departmental NOC for foreign travel, since the employment letter must show permission for the trip.

Steps to apply for a Germany visit visa from Pakistan, from waiting list to collection

Three mistakes the German missions refuse outright

An unsigned passport cannot receive a visa, because a Pakistani passport is valid only with the holder's signature or thumb impression. An undisclosed refusal is treated as fraud. And since 1 July 2025 there is no free appeal against a refusal.

On signatures, a minor must sign or thumb the passport themselves. A parent's signature does not count. On refusals, the missions check the shared system, so declare every past Schengen refusal even if it was years ago. On appeals, the old voluntary objection, called remonstration, ended on 30 June 2025. If you are refused now, you fix the weak point and apply again.

Bank statements carry the most weight. The missions say that showing your money clearly is central to success, and they accept extra proof such as property papers, pension books or investment certificates, translated into English.

Processing takes about 14 days, so apply early

The German missions say a Schengen application usually takes about fourteen calendar days from the day you apply. It can take longer, especially in peak travel season. You can apply up to six months before your trip, so register as soon as your dates are firm.

German Schengen visa usual processing time for Pakistani applicants: 14 calendar days

The waiting list comes before those 14 days, and the page gives no waiting list length. That is the real delay for most people. In Karachi, the visa section opens Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 12:00, and passports are collected Monday to Thursday from 13:30 to 14:30.

Once the visa is in your passport, keep an eye on your days. The EU's new entry and exit records count them for you, and you can check how many Schengen days you have left before a second trip. If Germany is only one stop, compare the general Schengen visa rules from Pakistan to see which embassy should handle a multi-country trip.

Flying through Frankfurt or Munich may need a transit visa

Pakistani nationals often need an airport transit visa even to stay airside at a German airport. It costs €90. Only Frankfurt and Munich have transit areas open around the clock, so a change of airport needs a full Schengen visa instead.

You may not need the transit visa if you hold a residence permit of a Schengen state, an EU state, Canada, Japan, the UK or the USA, or a valid visa for a Schengen state, an EU state, Canada, Japan or the USA when travelling to or from that country. Check this with your ticket before you fly, because the airline will stop you at check-in, not the German border.

Common questions

How much is the Germany visit visa fee in Pakistan?

€90 for an adult and €45 for a child aged 6 to 12, paid in Pakistani rupees in cash at the current exchange rate.

Do I need an agent to get a German visa appointment?

No. Registering on the waiting list is free, and the missions say anyone asking for money at that stage is a fraudster.

Can I appeal a German visa refusal?

Not through the old free objection. The missions ended remonstration from 1 July 2025, so you reapply with a stronger file.

How long is the German visa processing time in Pakistan?

Usually about 14 calendar days after you apply, plus however long you wait on the appointment list before that.

Why was my child's passport not accepted?

A minor must sign or put a thumb impression on their own passport. A parent's signature does not make it valid.

Where do Gilgit-Baltistan residents apply?

The page does not say. Ask the German Embassy in Islamabad through its contact form before registering.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the German Missions in Pakistan pages on visa fees, payment and processing and short-term Schengen visas, plus the visitor, tourist and airport transit document pages, on 24 October 2026. We could not see the current length of either waiting list, the rupee rate the missions use on a given day, or which mission serves Gilgit-Baltistan. Fees and lists can change, so check the missions' pages again before you pay.
