That sounds like criticism. It is not, and the reason is the point of this whole article.

That is the widely reported launch figure from Atlas Honda. Some listings quote up to Rs 170,900, and that spread comes from variant and dealer rather than from a second official price, so ask what you are actually being quoted before paying.
Prices on this bike move upward fairly regularly, driven by input costs rather than by product changes. A CD 70 costing Rs 159,900 today is the same machine that cost considerably less two years ago, which is a fact about the rupee more than about the motorcycle.
The changes are cosmetic
Blue is the new colour, joining red and black. Atlas Honda has added blue themed graphics, improved the chrome finishing and made what it describes as slight engine tuning for fuel efficiency.

Treat the engine tuning claim carefully. Manufacturers describe small calibration changes this way every year, and a difference you cannot measure at the pump is not a difference you should pay for. If economy improves, it will be by a margin your riding style swamps.
The specification sheet has barely moved in twenty years
A 72cc four stroke OHC air cooled engine, bore and stroke of 47.0 by 41.4 mm, an 8.5 litre tank and a fuel average of around 55 km per litre.
Some listings claim 55 to 65 km/l. We are using the lower figure because it is the one Atlas Honda stands behind, and because 65 is achievable only in conditions most riders never see: flat road, light load, steady speed, no traffic.
On a full 8.5 litre tank at 55 km/l you get roughly 460 kilometres, which is Lahore to Islamabad and most of the way back.
Fuel economy is the entire argument
At Rs 336 a litre for petrol, a bike doing 55 km/l costs about Rs 6.10 per kilometre of fuel. A car doing 12 km/l costs about Rs 28. That gap is why this bike outsells everything.
For a commuter riding 40 km a day, six days a week, the fuel bill is roughly Rs 5,900 a month. The same commute in a small car is nearer Rs 27,000. Over a year that difference is more than the price of the motorcycle.
That arithmetic has not changed in decades, and it is the reason a bike with no new features keeps selling. Nobody buys a CD 70 for the chrome.
Resale value is the hidden feature
The CD 70 holds value better than almost anything else on Pakistani roads, and that is a genuine financial feature rather than marketing.
Reasons it holds up:
- Parts are available in every town, so a broken one is worth repairing rather than scrapping.
- Any mechanic can work on it, which keeps repair costs low and predictable.
- Demand is enormous and constant, so there is always a buyer.
- The design barely changes, so a five year old bike does not look obviously dated next to a new one.
That last point is quietly the most valuable. A motorcycle that gets redesigned every three years makes its predecessors look old. One that never changes does not.
The competition is cheaper but not better value
Plenty of Chinese and local 70cc bikes undercut the CD 70, sometimes by Rs 40,000 or more. On paper they offer the same displacement and similar claimed economy.
Where they lose is everything after the purchase. Parts availability is thinner, build quality varies between units of the same model, and resale is dramatically worse. A cheaper bike that sells for half as much in three years was not cheaper.
The honest exception is if you genuinely cannot afford the difference today. Cash flow beats theoretical lifetime cost when the money is not there, and nobody should pretend otherwise.
Buying one takes a few checks
Given the price and the number of grey imports and rebadged bikes around, worth doing this properly:
- Confirm the quoted price includes registration, or ask what it adds.
- Check the engine and chassis numbers on the bike match the documents before paying.
