The KSE-100 index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed at 164,467.20 on Tuesday 27 October 2026, up 1,428.74 points or 0.88%. Banks did most of the work: MCB Bank alone added about 161 points, and the 14 banks in the index added about 568 between them.

It was the first session under the State Bank of Pakistan's new 12% policy rate, which took effect on 27 October. Of the 100 index shares, 77 rose and only 21 fell. We read every figure below on the PSX data portal after the close, and worked out each share's points from its weight and price change.

MCB, Fauji Fertilizer and UBL added the most points

MCB Bank added about 161 index points as its share rose 2.92% to Rs 383.98. Fauji Fertilizer, the heaviest share in the index at 9.22% of its weight, added about 100 points on a 0.66% rise to Rs 537.11. UBL added about 92 points, up 0.72% to Rs 410.80.

Biggest KSE-100 points movers on 27 October 2026, MCB Bank first

National Bank of Pakistan rose 2.46% to Rs 154.79 and added about 67 points. Pakistan Petroleum added about 70 and Habib Bank about 52. Meezan Bank, which pulled the index down by 206 points on Monday, turned round and added about 49.

Ghandhara Industries hit its upper limit for the day, up 10.00% to Rs 1,061.16, and added about 51 points despite a small weight. Ghandhara Automobiles rose 8.44%. If you want to know what a 10% day means for trading, the PSX circuit breaker rules set that ceiling.

All 14 banks in the index rose on the first day of the 12% rate

All 14 banks in the KSE-100 closed higher on 27 October, and together they added about 568 of the 1,428.74 points. That is roughly 40% of the day's gain from banks that carry about a third of the index weight.

Bank Makramah had the biggest bank move, up 6.97%. MCB rose 2.92%, NBP 2.46%, HabibMetro 1.52% and Bank Alfalah 1.29%. The smallest rises were at Standard Chartered (0.13%) and Allied Bank (0.18%).

The PSX data does not tell us why traders bought, so we make no claim about the cause. The timing is a fact, though: the higher policy rate took effect the same morning. A bank earns more on its government bonds and loans when rates go up, which is one reason the banking index often moves on rate days.

PTC fell 4.15% and took the most points off the index

Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTC) fell 4.15% to Rs 42.46 and took about 39 points off the KSE-100, the biggest drag of the day. Thatta Cement fell 3.47% and Lucky Core Industries 2.43%, each costing about 15 points.

Mari Energies slipped 0.18% and cost about 10 points because of its large weight. Fatima Fertilizer fell 0.41%. In all, the 21 falling shares took away about 113 points, against about 1,540 added by the 77 that rose. Two shares did not move.

How to check the KSE-100 close yourself

The PSX data portal shows the closing KSE-100 level free, with no sign-in. Its constituents page lists all 100 shares with price, change and weight, so you can see who moved the index. The steps below take about two minutes, and the method behind our points figures is in step 5.

  1. Open dps.psx.com.pk in a browser.
  2. Read the KSE100 line at the top for the level, the change and the time stamp.
  3. Open Indices, then KSE100, for the 100 shares.
  4. During the evening, sort the IDX POINT column to see which shares added or took away points.
  5. Next morning that column resets to zero, so multiply the index level by a share's weight and by its change divided by its price.

The KSE-100 movers on the data portal can be read the same way any day. Remember that the portal is the exchange's own record, so it beats any screenshot in a group chat.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the PSX data portal home page and its KSE-100 constituents page at about 8:40 am PKT on 28 October 2026, before the day's open. The portal had already reset each share's IDX POINT column to zero, so the points per share are our own estimates from the listed weight, price and change; they add up to 1,426.82 against the official 1,428.74. The market summary figures were read at the same time and are taken to be the 27 October totals. We have not checked the 28 October session.
