Pedro Acosta won the MotoGP Malaysia Sprint 2026 at Sepang on Saturday 31 October, 0.578 seconds ahead of Marc Marquez, and Marquez now leads the championship by 19 points because Jorge Martin has withdrawn from the weekend. The 20-lap Malaysian Grand Prix starts at 12:00 pm PKT today, Sunday 1 November, with Alex Marquez on pole.

We read the Sprint classification, the qualifying results and the updated riders' standings in MotoGP's official results data on 1 November 2026. Martin's withdrawal and Raul Fernandez's absence are confirmed in MotoGP's own news posts. Every Pakistan time below is our conversion from Malaysian time, which is three hours ahead.

Acosta beat Marc Marquez by 0.578 seconds in the 10-lap Sprint

Acosta, riding for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, covered the 10 laps in 20:04.098. Marc Marquez finished 0.578 seconds behind on the factory Ducati, and Marco Bezzecchi was third for Aprilia, 1.310 seconds back. Ai Ogura was fourth, only half a second off the podium.

It was Acosta's second Sprint win of 2026. Pole sitter Alex Marquez did not finish: MotoGP's data shows him out after two laps, and Jack Miller was also out at the same point. Johann Zarco was the first rider without points in tenth.

Jorge Martin withdrew from Malaysia with a broken wrist

Jorge Martin will not race at Sepang. MotoGP confirmed on 31 October that the Aprilia rider withdrew after Free Practice 2. He broke his wrist in Australia six days before the Malaysian weekend and tried to ride through the pain on Friday.

Martin rode 12 laps in the first session on Friday and only three laps in the afternoon Practice session. He went out again on Saturday morning, then stopped. The results data shows him with no time in Qualifying 1 and no entry in the Sprint. MotoGP says he is aiming to return at the next round.

He is not the only one missing. Raul Fernandez of Trackhouse rode the first session on Friday, then a medical review declared him unfit because of fingers he broke at the Indonesian round. That leaves Malaysia with 20 starters in the Sprint, two fewer than usual.

For Martin, this is brutal timing. He arrived 10 points behind. He leaves Sepang, at best, 19 points behind, and at worst 44.

Marquez now leads Martin by 19 points with the Grand Prix to come

After the Sprint, Marc Marquez has 374 points and Martin stays on 355. Bezzecchi is third on 322 after his podium. Acosta's win lifts him to 275, ten points clear of Ogura in fifth.

Marquez cannot win the title today. Even a Grand Prix win would put him 44 points clear, and three weekends remain after Malaysia, Qatar, Portugal and Valencia, each worth up to 37 points. That is 111 points still on the table by our sum.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the Sprint, Qualifying 1, Qualifying 2 and practice classifications and the riders' standings in MotoGP's official results data, the feed behind motogp.com, on 1 November 2026 at about 5:30 am PKT. Martin's withdrawal is from MotoGP's post Martin withdraws: the #89 won't take part in Malaysia, and Fernandez's absence from Raul Fernandez sidelined from Sepang. The Begin listing is from MotoGP's broadcasters page, which we read on 31 October. The points maths is ours. We could not confirm why Alex Marquez and Jack Miller stopped after two laps, because the results data does not give a reason, and we did not check whether Martin has been cleared for Qatar.
