Short answer: Mutton averaged Rs 2,401.65 a kilo and beef with bone Rs 1,279.62 a kilo in Pakistan in the week ended 22 October 2026. Both barely moved in a week, but mutton is 14.66 per cent and beef 12.10 per cent dearer than a year ago. Lahore had the dearest mutton at Rs 2,928 and Rawalpindi the dearest beef at Rs 1,516.
These are the prices the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) collected in 17 cities for its weekly Sensitive Price Indicator, released on 23 October. We read the PBS summary and city table on 24 October and compared each city with the week before. Meat prices change slowly, so the city gaps matter more than the weekly move. Every city, the yearly rise and how meat compares with chicken are below.
Mutton is Rs 2,402 and beef Rs 1,280 a kilo on average
The national average for mutton was Rs 2,401.65 a kilo on 22 October 2026, up Rs 1.39 in a week. Beef with bone averaged Rs 1,279.62, up Rs 3.99. A year ago mutton cost Rs 2,094.59 and beef Rs 1,141.48.

That means mutton costs Rs 307 more a kilo than in October 2025, and beef Rs 138 more. Both are also above their yearly averages. PBS puts the 2025-26 average at Rs 2,157.14 for mutton and Rs 1,170.70 for beef.
PBS records average quality meat. For beef, the price is for meat with bone, which is how most families buy it. Boneless beef and special cuts cost more, and PBS does not track them.

Beef is dearest in Rawalpindi and cheapest in Bannu
Rawalpindi had the dearest beef at Rs 1,515.94 a kilo, then Islamabad at Rs 1,491.13 and Karachi at Rs 1,470.13. Bannu was cheapest at Rs 1,032.28. Lahore saw the only big move, up Rs 64.60 or 5.25 per cent in one week.

Lahore's beef range was Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,400 this week. The gap between the dearest and cheapest city is Rs 484 a kilo for beef and Rs 1,128 for mutton, by our arithmetic. So where you live changes the meat bill more than any weekly move.
Interestingly, Lahore has the dearest mutton but middling beef. Faisalabad pays more for beef than Lahore does, at Rs 1,432.57. PBS does not explain city gaps.
Meat prices have hardly moved for five weeks
Mutton moved from Rs 2,399.22 on 24 September to Rs 2,401.65 on 22 October, and beef from Rs 1,274.00 to Rs 1,279.62, PBS's weekly releases show. That is less than half a per cent for either. The big yearly rise happened earlier.
| Week ended | Mutton, Rs a kg | Beef, Rs a kg |
|---|---|---|
| 24 September | 2,399.22 | 1,274.00 |
| 1 October | 2,399.22 | 1,275.63 |
| 8 October | 2,399.22 | 1,275.63 |
| 15 October | 2,400.26 | 1,275.63 |
| 22 October | 2,401.65 | 1,279.62 |
One kilo of mutton costs as much as 5.4 kilos of live chicken
At this week's averages, a kilo of mutton costs about 5.4 times a kilo of live chicken, and a kilo of beef about 2.9 times, by our arithmetic. Live chicken jumped 12.20 per cent this week to Rs 444.27, so the gap has narrowed.
The full chicken list is in our report on the chicken price on 22 October.
A plate of cooked beef at an average hotel held at Rs 323.93, PBS found. For a family that buys 1 kg of beef and 1 kg of mutton a month, the bill is about Rs 3,681, up about Rs 445 on last year.
Before you buy meat, a few checks help:
- Find your city in the table and note the average for mutton or beef.
- Ask whether the beef price is with bone or boneless, because PBS tracks with bone.
- Check your district's official meat price list if one is issued, because that is the legal limit.
- Compare two or three butchers in your area, since city ranges can run to Rs 600 a kilo.
- Look again next Friday, when PBS releases the next week.
All of these items feed into weekly inflation for 22 October, which rose 0.65 per cent.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We read the PBS SPI executive summary for 22 October 2026 and the city price table on 24 October 2026, along with the 15 October city table and the summaries for 8 October, 1 October and 24 September. City figures are averages from sample markets, not shop prices or official rate lists. The city gaps, ratios to chicken and family costs are our own arithmetic. PBS gives no reasons for price moves.
