No Public Holiday on 14, 15 or 16 October 2026 in Pakistan: Fact Check
A message claims a holiday on 14, 15 and 16 October 2026. The Cabinet Division has notified none. See the real holidays left in Pakistan and how to check.

There is no public holiday on Wednesday 14, Thursday 15 or Friday 16 October 2026 in Pakistan. The Cabinet Division has not notified one. A message claiming three days off is going round, and we found nothing official behind it. The next public holiday is Allama Iqbal Day on Monday 9 November.
If your office, school or shop is open on those days, that is the normal position. We checked the government's own holiday page early on 8 October 2026 and the answer is the same: no holiday for those dates.
The Cabinet Division has notified no holiday for 14 to 16 October
The Cabinet Division is the federal body that declares public holidays. Its "Public and Optional Holidays" page lists every holiday notice for 2026, and none covers 14, 15 or 16 October. The newest holiday notice on that page is for Eid Milad-un-Nabi on 26 August 2026.
We read that page, and the Cabinet Division's latest news list, at about 12:40am PKT on 8 October. The news list had no holiday item since the August notices. Its newest entry, dated 7 October, is about the committee that monitors the austerity measures, not a holiday.

| Date | Day | Public holiday notified? |
|---|---|---|
| 14 October 2026 | Wednesday | No |
| 15 October 2026 | Thursday | No |
| 16 October 2026 | Friday | No |
The yearly list works the same way. The Cabinet Division issued its circular for 2026 on 19 January 2026. It names 12 public holidays, and no holiday falls between Eid Milad-un-Nabi on 26 August and 9 November. We cover that list in full in the public holidays left in Pakistan in 2026.
We could not trace the document that is going round
We have not seen the circulating document, so we cannot say who made it. Reports about it say it is an old notice from an earlier meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the regional group Pakistan joined in 2017, shared again with new dates. We could not confirm that either.
What we can say is what is on the official record. A federal holiday notice for a summit would appear on the Cabinet Division page, and it shows none. Also, there is no SCO leaders' summit in Pakistan this month.
The Foreign Office says Pakistan chairs the SCO for 2026 to 2027. The leaders' meeting is planned for August 2027. Pakistan has only hosted a meeting of national coordinators, the officials who prepare the work, in Islamabad from 28 to 30 September. The SCO coordinators meeting in Islamabad was that event, and no holiday came with it.
How to tell a real holiday notice from a fake one
A real federal holiday notice has a reference number, a date and the name of an officer of the Cabinet Division. It also appears on the Cabinet Division website. A message with none of these is not enough to act on.

- Open the Cabinet Division website, cabinet.gov.pk, and go to the "Public Holidays" section.
- Look for a notice that names your exact dates. A real one is posted as a PDF.
- Check the notice number and the date. A new holiday cannot be signed months or years ago.
- Check whether it applies to you. Federal notices cover federal offices. Provinces and districts decide on schools and local offices.
- If the page shows nothing, treat the message as unconfirmed and wait.
A forwarded image of a notice is the easiest thing to fake. Zoom in on the date and the notice number before you forward it on. If they are missing or do not match the page, do not share it.
The real holidays still left are 9 November and 25 December
Only three public holidays remain in 2026. Allama Iqbal Day is on Monday 9 November. Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas share Friday 25 December. The Day after Christmas on Saturday 26 December is for Christians only. All three fall on fixed dates, so none depends on the moon.
| Date | Day | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| 9 November | Monday | Allama Iqbal Day, public holiday |
| 25 December | Friday | Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas, public holiday |
| 26 December | Saturday | Day after Christmas, Christians only |
The gap is long. From today, the next public holiday is 32 days away. That is probably why a message promising a break in mid October spreads so fast.
Optional holidays in October are for minority staff only
Three optional holidays fall in October 2026, and they are not days off for everyone. Durga Puja is on Monday 19 October, Dussehra on Tuesday 20 October and the birthday of Guru Valmik Swami Ji on Monday 26 October. Hindu staff can take them. Offices stay open for everyone else.
The Cabinet Division's circular says minority staff should not ordinarily be refused an optional holiday that has religious meaning for them. An optional holiday is not a closure. Banks, courts and markets run as normal.

Banks have no holiday in this period either. The Cabinet Division circular lists bank holidays for 2026 as 1 January, 18 February and 1 July. For hours on working days, see bank timings in Pakistan.
What to do if you are unsure about work or school
Do not stay home because of a forwarded message. Ask your employer or school in writing, and go by their notice. A private company follows its own calendar unless the government orders a closure. Schools follow the education department of their province.
If a closure really does come, it will be announced on the Cabinet Division site for federal offices, or by the province or district for local ones. Local holidays, such as a closure for a city event, are announced for that area only.
Common questions
Is 14 October 2026 a public holiday in Pakistan?
No. The Cabinet Division has not notified a holiday for 14 October. It is a normal Wednesday.
Are 15 and 16 October 2026 holidays?
No. We found no federal notice for Thursday 15 or Friday 16 October either. Offices, banks and markets stay open.
Is the holiday notice going round on social media real?
We found no matching notice on the Cabinet Division website, so we treat it as unconfirmed. We have not seen the document itself.
When is the next public holiday in Pakistan?
Monday 9 November 2026, Allama Iqbal Day. After that comes 25 December.
Is there an SCO summit in Pakistan in October 2026?
No. Pakistan hosts the SCO leaders' summit in August 2027. The only SCO meeting in Islamabad this autumn was the coordinators meeting on 28 to 30 September.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 8 October 2026, about 12:40am PKT. We read the Cabinet Division's Public and Optional Holidays page and its latest news list. The 2026 holiday dates come from the Cabinet Division circular of 19 January 2026. The SCO chair year and the 2027 summit date come from the Foreign Office, read on 28 September. We could not see the circulating document, so nothing here says who made it. A holiday could still be notified later, so check the Cabinet Division page before you plan around any date.
