How to Register a .pk Domain With PKNIC, Now Rs 2,100 a Year

A .pk or .com.pk domain costs Rs 2,100 a year from PKNIC, the .pk registry, since 1 August 2026. PKNIC bills two years at a time, so your first payment is Rs 4,200. You search the name on pknic.net.pk, open a free account, add credit and register. Buyers outside Pakistan pay $15.99 a year.

A shop in Lahore or a tutor in Multan often wants a web address that says "Pakistan" at a glance. That is what .pk does. We read PKNIC's own pricing, registration, renewal, transfer and policy pages on 30 September 2026, and every fee below comes from them.

PKNIC raised the price by Rs 300 per domain per year on 1 August 2026, from Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,100. The overseas price did not change. Any reseller quote well above Rs 2,100 a year includes their own margin or hosting.

PKNIC charges Rs 2,100 a year for every .pk domain type

PKNIC charges one flat fee for registrants in Pakistan: Rs 2,100 a year, billed every two years. That price applies whether you pick .pk, .com.pk, .org.pk or .web.pk. Renewal costs the same as registration, and you can pay up to ten years ahead.

PKNIC's domain structure page says the payment schedule is the same for all domain types. So .pk is not a premium option here, unlike some country domains abroad. Ten years paid upfront works out to Rs 21,000 at today's rate.

PKNIC does not sell hosting or email. Its FAQ says so plainly. You buy those from a hosting company, and what a website costs in Pakistan depends far more on hosting and design than on the Rs 2,100 domain fee.

One more thing about the money. PKNIC's pricing page does not mention tax on top of the fee. We did not complete a purchase, so we cannot confirm whether a tax line appears on the final invoice.

Pick between .pk, .com.pk and the other endings

A plain .pk name, like yourshop.pk, needs at least four characters before the dot. A .com.pk name can be a single character. Most endings are open to anyone, but .edu.pk and the government endings need documents and approval before they go live.

• .pk: general use, at least 4 characters, such as 1234.pk.
• .com.pk: businesses or individuals.
• .net.pk: network related businesses.
• .org.pk: non-profit organisations.
• .fam.pk, .biz.pk, .web.pk: families, promotions and websites.
• .edu.pk: real educational institutes with active students. PKNIC keeps these inactive until it checks the documents.
• .ac.pk: academic use, open since 15 May 2024, with no accreditation needed.
• .gov.pk and provincial endings: .gop.pk for Punjab, .gos.pk for Sindh, .gkp.pk for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, .gob.pk for Balochistan, .gog.pk for Gilgit-Baltistan and .gok.pk for Azad Kashmir.

PKNIC also blocks look-alike names to cut phishing. A four-character .pk name cannot start with a reserved ending, so coms.pk or nets.pk are refused. A name cannot begin or end with a dash, or contain two dashes in a row. The longest name allowed is 63 characters before the ending.

Choose carefully. PKNIC's FAQ says a registered domain name cannot be changed later. A typo means buying a second domain.

Register a .pk domain on pknic.net.pk in five steps

You register directly on PKNIC's website with a free account. Search the name, sign up, add domain credit by card or prepaid card, then register. The money must be in your account first. The registration steps page lists no documents for ordinary .pk or .com.pk names.

1. Search your name in the "Search Domain" box on PKNIC's registration page to check it is free.
2. Log in to your .pk account, or sign up for one.
3. Open Billing, then "Add Domain Credits", and pay by credit card or a PKNIC prepaid card.
4. Open "Register Domain", then "Register Domains", and pick your name.
5. Add your name servers when your hosting is ready. PKNIC does not require them at registration.

Payment options are few. PKNIC takes credit cards, prepaid cards sold by its resellers, and cheques or bank drafts made out to "PKNIC (PVT) Ltd" and posted to its Lahore office. If you do not have a card, a reseller can register and pay for you. PKNIC's page names only credit cards and prepaid cards, so ask your bank before trying a debit card.

Your domain can work within hours. PKNIC says its zone files update every few hours. It also says a new name is registered provisionally and fully reviewed within up to 30 days. If PKNIC asks you a question during that review and you do not reply in 15 days, the application is rejected.

Know the rules that can cost you a .pk domain

PKNIC's policy is first come, first served. It can refuse or cancel a name that breaks a registered trade name, Pakistani criminal law or its list of offensive words. Disputes go to binding arbitration under the Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center, not straight to court.

Your details also become public. PKNIC's policy says all registration information is treated as public and is shown online. There is no privacy option mentioned on its pages.

There is good news for overseas Pakistanis and foreign firms. The policy says a registrant needs no local presence and no admin contact in Pakistan. Your name also does not need to match your company or trademark. If you plan to protect a brand name properly, registering a trademark in Pakistan is the stronger step, because PKNIC only recognises trade name claims registered with a Pakistani office or a court.

Renew before expiry or lose the name after two weeks

PKNIC usually issues a renewal invoice a few weeks before expiry. Pay it from Billing, then Invoices. If you miss the due date, PKNIC deactivates the domain. You then have a two-week hold period to pay and reactivate it before anyone else can register it.

The policy is blunt that the reminder is a courtesy. Not getting the email, for any reason, is not accepted as a reason to pay late. So keep the billing email on your account up to date, and put the expiry date in your phone.

• Online invoice: Billing, then Invoices, then pay.
• Early renewal: My Domains, then Manage Domains, tick the domain, then "Invoice For Payment".
• Card: Billing, then Pay Domains.
• Agent: an ISP or reseller can pay on your behalf.
• Cheque: to "PKNIC (PVT) Ltd", with your account number or domain on the back.

The fee is also non-refundable, even if you ask PKNIC to delete the domain early.

Transfer a .pk domain with original documents by post

Moving a .pk domain to another account or registrar is a paper process. PKNIC wants original signed documents by post, not scans. It then confirms by phone, and the move takes about 3 to 4 business days after that. An expired domain cannot be transferred.

Send the papers to PKNIC Collection, 435 Tariq Block, Garden Town, Lahore. PKNIC's change registrar page has sample letters to download. Changing the owner's name on a domain follows the same paper route, because PKNIC keeps the registrant record locked.

Here is where people get stuck. A web developer registers the domain in their own account, then leaves. Get the domain into your own PKNIC account, or at least into your company's name, from day one. If the domain is for a business, having it match the name on your SECP company registration or your sole proprietor registration with FBR makes any later transfer far easier.
