The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) is closed on Monday 9 November 2026 for Allama Iqbal Day and on Friday 25 December 2026 for Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas. Those are the last two market holidays of 2026 on the PSX calendar. Below is the full 2026 list, what a holiday means for your shares and money, and where to check the 2027 dates when they come out.

We read the PSX "Calendar Holidays" page on psx.com.pk on 26 October 2026. It lists 12 holidays, 17 days in total, for 2026. The list is the exchange's own, so it is the one to trust over a general public holiday notice.

PSX is closed on 9 November and 25 December 2026

Two PSX holidays are left in 2026. Allama Iqbal Day falls on Monday 9 November, so the market shuts for a long weekend from Saturday 7 November. Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas fall on Friday 25 December, giving another three-day break.

PSX closed on Monday 9 November 2026 for Allama Iqbal Day

So the last trading day before Iqbal Day is Friday 6 November, and trading resumes on Tuesday 10 November. Around Christmas, the last session is Thursday 24 December and the next is Monday 28 December. The PSX list does not include the Day after Christmas, which is a Saturday this year anyway.

These dates match the federal public holidays for the rest of the year. The public holidays in Pakistan for 2026 list the same days for government offices.

All 12 PSX holidays in 2026

PSX lists 12 holidays for 2026 covering 17 days. Three of them, Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha and Ashura, last more than a day, and the Eid and Ashura dates depend on the moon. Fifteen of the 17 days had passed by late October.

Two pairs overlapped in 2026. Pakistan Day fell on the third day of Eid-ul-Fitr, and Youm-e-Takbeer on the third day of Eid-ul-Azha. So the 17 listed days meant fewer actual closures. By our count, the market lost 13 weekdays to holidays in 2026, because 21 and 22 March were a Saturday and Sunday.

PSX adds a warning under its table: "If any necessity arises, PSX reserves the right to modify or vary the above dates." A sudden government holiday can also close the market, so watch for a PSX notice in any week with unusual news.

Plan any share sale or transfer around the two long weekends

With PSX shut on 9 November and 25 December, and banks closed for the same public holidays, no trades or bank transfers to your broker go through on those days. If you need cash from shares, sell early and check the settlement date.

Your broker's trade confirmation and account statement give the settlement date for each trade. Read it before you promise the money to someone, because a long weekend can push a payment past the date you had in mind.

Dividends and other company payouts are set by each company's announcement, not by PSX. A holiday can push a payment date, but the company notice is the authority. The company announcements on the PSX data portal show those notices.

Banks and the stock market do not always close on the same days

PSX follows its own calendar. Banks close for the State Bank's bank holiday on 1 January, which is not on the PSX list for 2026. When banks shut but PSX trades, money transfers to and from your broker can wait until banks reopen.

The next such day is Friday 1 January 2027. The bank holidays in Pakistan list it. PSX had not posted its 2027 holiday calendar when we checked, so we cannot yet say whether the exchange trades that day.

How to check if PSX is open today

The quickest check is the PSX data portal. On a trading day the KSE-100 line shows a fresh time stamp. On a holiday it still shows the previous session's close. PSX's own website lists holidays under The Exchange, then General, then Calendar Holidays.

  1. Open dps.psx.com.pk and read the time stamp beside the KSE-100 figure.
  2. If the date is the last working day, not today, the market has not opened.
  3. Open psx.com.pk, then The Exchange, General, Calendar Holidays, for the official list.
  4. Look at PSX notices for any change announced at short notice.
  5. Check your broker's app, which usually shows market status on the home screen.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the PSX Calendar Holidays page and the PSX data portal on 26 October 2026, and worked out the weekdays and overlaps ourselves. The PSX trading-hours page still showed an old Ramadan notice from 2020, so we do not quote session times here.
