Punjab Car Fitness Certificate Deadline Moved to 15 November, Reports Say
Punjab's private car fitness deadline is reported moved from 15 October to 15 November 2026. See the Rs 500 to Rs 2,000 fee, the 25 test centres and the fines.

The Punjab Provincial Transport Authority has moved the deadline for private car fitness certificates from 15 October to 15 November 2026, according to reports of a notice on the authority's Facebook page on 9 October. The Transport Department's website had not posted it when we checked the same day, so treat the new date as reported until it does.
Either way, the test itself has not changed. The fee is still Rs 500 to Rs 2,000 by engine size, set in the authority's notification of 30 December 2025. And the department's own list shows 25 licensed emission test centres on 8 October 2026, most of them in Lahore.
That is a small number for a province with millions of private cars, which is the reason given in reports for the extra month. If your car needs a test, use the time. Queues near any deadline only get longer.
The new date is 15 November, but it is not yet on the official site
Reports on 9 October say the authority announced the one month extension on Facebook. We checked the Transport and Mass Transit Department's notifications page and its PVICS pages the same day. Neither listed an extension notice.
The Facebook post was not something we could open and read in full. So we are not printing the extension as settled fact. The practical advice is the same either way: get the test done before 15 November, and keep an eye on transport.punjab.gov.pk for the formal notice.
| Item | Status on 9 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Old deadline | 15 October 2026 |
| New deadline | 15 November 2026, reported |
| Extension on the department website | Not yet posted |
| Fee notification | In force since 30 December 2025 |
| Licensed test centres | 25, list dated 8 October 2026 |

The emission test fee runs from Rs 500 to Rs 2,000
The fee for a private car's emission test is Rs 500 up to 1000cc and rises to Rs 2,000 above 4500cc. The Punjab Provincial Transport Authority notified it on 30 December 2025, adopting the Environment Protection Agency's schedule.
| Engine size (cars and light transport vehicles) | Fee |
|---|---|
| 1000cc and below | Rs 500 |
| 1000cc to 1500cc | Rs 800 |
| 1500cc to 2500cc | Rs 1,000 |
| 2500cc to 4500cc | Rs 1,500 |
| 4500cc or higher | Rs 2,000 |
The fee is charged at the test by a Vehicle Emission Testing Centre licensed under Rule 35-A of the Punjab Motor Vehicles Rules 1969. Pay only at a licensed centre. A roadside "agent" who offers a certificate without a test is not offering you a certificate.

Only 25 licensed test centres were active on 8 October
The Transport Department's workshop licence report, generated on 8 October 2026, lists 25 workshops with active licences. By our count about 18 are in Lahore, with the rest in Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad.
Nine of those licences were issued on or after 30 September, so the list is growing week by week. Several are at fuel stations. If you live outside these cities, check the latest list before you drive anywhere, because a newer centre may be closer.
- Open transport.punjab.gov.pk and go to the Official PVICS Licence Announcement page.
- Open the updated list of workshop licences and find the centre nearest to you.
- Make sure your token tax is paid, since operators ask for it.
- Take the car for its emission test and pay the fee for your engine size.
- If it fails, get it repaired and go back for a retest before the deadline.
The fuller walk-through, with booking, documents and what a failed test looks like, is in getting a car fitness certificate in Punjab. If you are not sure your token tax is clear, paying Punjab token tax online takes a few minutes.

The fine depends on your vehicle type
The Punjab traffic police offences table lists "Driving a motor vehicle without fitness certificate" at Rs 2,000 for a motorcycle, Rs 3,000 for a three-wheeler, Rs 10,000 for a car above 2000cc and Rs 15,000 for public service and transport vehicles.
| Vehicle | Fine for no fitness certificate |
|---|---|
| Motorcycle | Rs 2,000 |
| Three-wheeler | Rs 3,000 |
| Car under 2000cc | No amount listed |
| Car over 2000cc | Rs 10,000 |
| Public service and transport vehicles | Rs 15,000 |
The row for cars under 2000cc shows a dash, not an amount, on the page we read. That is not a promise you will never be stopped. Smoky vehicles face separate action, and traffic police were already told to start a crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles before smog season.
Newer cars may not need a test yet
Reports say the authority's rules exempt new cars for a set number of years from manufacture: five years up to 1000cc, six years from 1001cc to 2000cc, and seven years above 2000cc. A licensed operator states the same thresholds on its own site.
We could not find a department notice that prints those thresholds, so they are reported, not confirmed. If your car is close to the line, take the test anyway. At Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 for most family cars, it is cheaper than the risk of a fine. Commercial vehicles are on a separate six monthly regime, set out in fitness testing for commercial vehicles in Punjab.

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked on 9 October 2026. We read the Punjab Provincial Transport Authority's P-VICS fee notification of 30 December 2025, the workshop licence report generated on 8 October 2026, the department's notifications page, and the Punjab traffic police offences and penalties table.
