A report dated 13 October 2026 says Punjab has moved the private car fitness certificate deadline from 15 November to 31 December 2026. We could not find the new date on the Punjab Transport Department's own notifications page, so treat it as reported, not confirmed. The test is still not enforced, but owners can book a slot now.

This deadline has now moved twice in a month. The first date was 15 October, then a reported extension to 15 November, and now a reported extension to 31 December. We opened the Transport Department pages on 15 October 2026 to see what is official. This article lists what we found and what a car owner in Punjab should do in the meantime.

The 31 December date comes from one report and no official notice

The new deadline of 31 December 2026 is reported to come from the Punjab Provincial Transport Authority. We did not find a notice with that date on the official pages we could open. Until the department posts one, 31 December is a reported date, and 15 October is not the day to fear.

The Transport Department notifications page lists its latest items as the Punjab New Energy Vehicle policy of June 2026, the ride-hailing safety protocols of February 2026 and the P-VICS fee notification of 30 December 2025. None is an extension notice. The department's home page shows a press conference item dated 11 September 2026 about getting the certificate from a P-VICS centre.

That does not prove the report is wrong. Notices often appear on social media before they reach a website. It does mean you should not tell a neighbour the date is final.

Official pages confirm 25 licensed test workshops, most of them in Lahore

The Transport Department publishes a list of workshops licensed for emission and fitness testing. The version we opened was generated on 8 October 2026 and shows 25 active records. Lahore has the largest share, with the rest spread across Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha and Rahim Yar Khan including Sadiqabad.

Several licences on that list were issued only in September and October 2026, which tells you the network is still being built. If you live outside these districts, you may have no centre close to you yet. That is a fair reason to wait for the extension to be notified.

Many licence holders are fuel station sites, so a centre near a petrol pump is common. Check the address on the official PDF before you drive across town, because the same trade name can have several sites.

Reported age limits decide when a private car must take its first test

Reports say a private car does not need the test until it reaches a set age. The reported limits are five years for cars up to 1,000cc, six years for 1,001cc to 2,000cc, and seven years for cars above 2,000cc. We could not find those limits on an official page, so check your car's age with the Transport Department.

The age is counted from the year of manufacture in the reports, not from the date you bought the car. A 2022 car under 1,000cc would not be due until 2027 on that reading. A 2018 car of 1,300cc would already be due.

Our earlier guide on the private car fitness certificate in Punjab explains fees and the fine row for driving without one. The older commercial vehicle rules are in the vehicle fitness certificate rules.

Smoke checks on the road are separate from the deadline

The fitness deadline and the crackdown on smoke emitting vehicles are two different things. A deadline extension for private cars does not stop a patrol from acting on a vehicle that is visibly smoking. In the smog season, a car in poor tune is the most likely to be stopped.

Our report on the smoke vehicle crackdown in Punjab shows what the authorities said about visible smoke. Keep the engine tuned and the exhaust clear, test or no test.

What a Punjab car owner should do before 31 December

Do not wait for the last week. Check your car's age first, then your token tax, then pick a licensed centre from the official list. Keep the receipt from any test you take.

  1. Find your car's year of manufacture on the registration card.
  2. Check the reported age limit for your engine size in the table above.
  3. Pay any token tax due, because reports advise paying it before the test. See the token tax penalty rules for the late charges.
  4. Choose a centre from the Transport Department's licence list and confirm its address.
  5. Keep the test receipt and certificate in the car.

Check the Transport Department page on the day you plan to test

Because the date is moving, the safe habit is to read the official notifications page again before you go. Look for a notice with a date and a notice number. A social media post alone is a signal, not a rule.

If the department posts a notice, our other pages will be updated. Until then, nothing on the official site changes your obligation today.

Common questions about the Punjab fitness certificate deadline

Is the Punjab fitness certificate deadline 31 December 2026?

It is reported to be, from a report dated 13 October 2026. We could not find the notice on the Transport Department's notifications page, so it is not confirmed.

Was the deadline 15 November?

An earlier report said the deadline had moved to 15 November. A later report says it moved again to 31 December. Neither date was on the official pages we opened.

Which cars must take the test first?

Reports say cars reach the test at five, six or seven years of age depending on engine size. We could not confirm those limits on an official page.

How many licensed test centres are there?

The official licence list generated on 8 October 2026 shows 25 active workshop licences, mostly in Lahore, with others in Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha and Rahim Yar Khan.

Do I need to pay token tax first?

Reports advise paying token tax before the test. Pay it first so a pending tax does not cause trouble on the day.

Can I still be stopped for smoke before the deadline?

Yes. The smoke crackdown is separate from the certificate deadline, and a car with visible smoke can be stopped at any time.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 15 October 2026. We opened the Punjab Transport Department notifications page, its PVICS page and the official PVICS licence announcement, and read the workshop licence list dated 8 October 2026. The 31 December date, the 15 November date and the age limits are from news reports and are marked as reported. We could not open the Traffic Police fine table today, so this page gives no fine amount. The department can publish a notice at any time, so confirm before you act.
