State Life's reversionary bonus for 2026 is Rs 134 per Rs 1,000 of sum assured on a whole life policy in policy years 6 to 16, and Rs 117 per Rs 1,000 on an endowment of 20 years or more in the same years. The rates come from the actuarial valuation as at 31 December 2025 and apply to with profit rupee policies in force for the full sum assured. Below is every plan's rate, the terminal and loyalty bonuses paid on claims in 2026, and a worked example you can copy for your own policy.

Bonus is how State Life shares its profit with policyholders. It is credited to your policy each year and paid at maturity or death. We read State Life's bonus rates page on 31 October 2026, and the figures below are as State Life publishes them.

Reversionary bonus 2026 depends on plan, term and policy year

The reversionary bonus is declared per Rs 1,000 of sum assured, in three bands: the first five policy years, years 6 to 16, and year 17 onwards. Older policies earn more. Endowment rates also fall as the policy term gets shorter.

PlanYears 1 to 5Years 6 to 16Year 17 onwards
Whole LifeRs 62Rs 134Rs 206
Endowment, 20 years and overRs 52Rs 117Rs 178
Endowment, 15 to 19 yearsRs 35Rs 98Rs 111
Endowment, 14 years and lessRs 21Rs 80None
Platinum PlusRs 32Rs 120None
Sada Bahar, 20 years and overRs 46Rs 105Rs 178
Sada Bahar, 15 to 19 yearsRs 32Rs 91Rs 111
Sada Bahar, 14 years and lessRs 24Rs 80None
Anticipated Endowment, 20 years and overRs 35Rs 85Rs 136
Anticipated Endowment, 15 to 19 yearsRs 25Rs 73Rs 80
Anticipated Endowment, 14 years and lessRs 20Rs 64None

The endowment rates cover a long list of plans, including Endowment Assurance, Golden Endowment, Jeevan Sathi, Shad Abad, Child Protection and Marriage, Muhafiz Plus and Rural Life. Big Deal gets the endowment rate on 25 per cent of its sum assured only. The anticipated endowment rates apply to the Three Payment Plan and the Family Pension Plan.

State Life reversionary bonus rates 2026 per Rs 1,000 sum assured for whole life and endowment plans

A worked example: Rs 500,000 endowment in its eighth year

Take a 20 year endowment with a sum assured of Rs 500,000, now in its eighth policy year. Its 2026 band is years 6 to 16 at Rs 117 per Rs 1,000. That adds Rs 58,500 of reversionary bonus to the policy for the year.

The sum is simple: divide the sum assured by 1,000, then multiply by the rate. Rs 500,000 divided by 1,000 is 500, and 500 times Rs 117 is Rs 58,500. This is our arithmetic, not a State Life statement for any real policy.

  1. Find your plan and term on the policy schedule.
  2. Count your policy year from the commencement date.
  3. Pick the band and rate from the table above.
  4. Divide the sum assured by 1,000 and multiply by the rate.
  5. Ask your zonal office for the total bonus already attached.

Bonus already credited stays with a matured policy even if nobody collects it. State Life lists such policies in its unpaid claims search, by name or policy number.

Bonus is only credited to policies in force for the full sum assured. A lapsed or paid up policy does not earn the reversionary bonus. For your exact running total, the zonal office that services your policy is the only source, as State Life says on the page.

Worked example of State Life bonus 2026 on a Rs 500,000 endowment policy

Terminal and loyalty bonuses are paid only on claims in 2026

The terminal bonus is extra money paid at maturity or death in 2026, on policies where more than ten years' premiums have been paid. It is Rs 90 per Rs 1,000 for each year's premium beyond ten, up to Rs 1,800 per Rs 1,000. It has no surrender value.

BonusRateWho gets it
Terminal bonusRs 90 per Rs 1,000 per year beyond 10, max Rs 1,800In force policies, not Anticipated Endowment
Special terminal bonusRs 10 per Rs 1,000 per year of FIB beyond 10, max Rs 200Policies with Family Income Benefit over 10 years
Loyalty terminal bonusRs 200 per Rs 1,000Policies with risk year 2006 or earlier
Paid up terminal bonusRs 90 per Rs 1,000 paid up sum per year beyond 10, max Rs 1,800Paid up policies on the books over 10 years

So a 20 year policy maturing in 2026, with all 20 premiums paid, gets 10 years beyond ten at Rs 90, or Rs 900 per Rs 1,000. On Rs 500,000 of sum assured that is Rs 450,000 of terminal bonus, by our arithmetic. State Life still adds old one time bonuses for very old policies, such as the Millennium bonus of Rs 51 per Rs 1,000.

Other plans get a rate on cash value or pension

Some plans do not use the per sum assured table. The Super, Sunehri and Shehnai policies get Rs 125 per Rs 1,000 a year on the adjusted opening cash value. The Committee Policy is credited at 12.50 per cent a year for quarters falling due in 2026. Personal Pension Scheme payments rise by Rs 125 per Rs 1,000.

For a Family Income Benefit already being paid to heirs, the rupee section of the page says it rises by 7.5 per cent. That text names policy anniversaries in 2027 for deaths on or before 2025, while the foreign currency section names 2026 and 2027 the other way round. The dates look mistyped, so ask your zone which year applies to you.

The major surgery benefit pays half the sum assured in advance

With profit rupee policies in force for at least five years can get 50 per cent of the basic sum assured in advance if the insured has a listed major surgery in 2026. The cap is Rs 500,000, or Rs 1,000,000 for policies in force at least ten years. The insured must be aged 20 to 65.

Covered procedures include coronary bypass, aorta surgery, heart valve replacement, a major organ transplant, craniotomy and major cancer surgery, when caused by disease rather than injury. The advance is later deducted from the maturity or death payment.

Bonus is part of the payout, and payouts can be taxed if a policy is cashed in early. The rules are in tax on a life insurance surrender or payout. To see where your own policy stands, the State Life policy check works with the policy number.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 31 October 2026. All rates come from State Life's bonus rates page, declared on the actuarial valuation as at 31 December 2025, and the Rs 181 billion figure from State Life's press release of 6 May 2026. We read both on 31 October 2026. The worked examples are our own arithmetic. We could not confirm which year the Family Income Benefit increase applies from, because the page gives different years in two places.
