IMEI Checker

Before you send anyone money for a used phone, check the IMEI they gave you is a real one. Made up numbers fail here instantly, and you will not have handed your details to a stranger to find out.

Type an IMEI above and it is checked as you go.

Nothing you type here leaves your browser. The check runs on your own device, so no IMEI is sent to us or to anyone else.

What the 15 digits mean

The first eight digits are the type allocation code, which identifies the make and model. The next six are the serial number of that individual handset. The last one is a check digit worked out from the other fourteen, and it exists precisely so that typing errors get caught.

That last digit is what this tool tests. It cannot tell you who owns the phone or whether it has been reported stolen, but it will tell you immediately when a number is not an IMEI at all, which is the most common thing a seller gets wrong when they are inventing one.

Then check it with PTA

Once the format checks out, send the IMEI to 8484 or put it into the DIRBS portal. That tells you whether the handset is compliant, blocked, or registered to somebody else, which is the part that decides whether it will still work in sixty days.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my IMEI number?

Dial *#06# and it appears straight away. You will also find it under Settings then About phone, printed on the box, and on the SIM tray of most iPhones.

Does a valid IMEI mean the phone is PTA approved?

No. This checks that the number is genuinely formed rather than mistyped or invented. Whether that handset is registered and clear to use on Pakistani networks is only answerable by DIRBS.

How does the check work?

The last of the 15 digits is a check digit calculated from the other 14 by the Luhn formula. If the arithmetic does not come out, the number cannot be a real IMEI.

Why does this matter when buying a used phone?

Sellers advertising blocked or stolen handsets often quote an IMEI that was never real. If the number fails here, walk away before you have spent anything or shared your own details.

Is my IMEI sent anywhere?

No. The check runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted, logged or stored, which is not something you can assume about every site offering this.

My phone shows two IMEI numbers, which one do I use?

Dual SIM phones carry one IMEI per slot and both are valid. Either can be checked here, and both must be registered for both slots to work.
