The UK Global Talent visa is for leaders or potential leaders in academic research, arts and culture, or digital technology. Most Pakistani applicants pay £561 for an endorsement first, then £205 for the visa, plus the health surcharge. A person who has won a listed prestigious prize can skip the endorsement and pay £766 directly. It lasts up to 5 years.

There is no job offer rule on this route and no sponsor. But the endorsement is the hard part. This guide explains the two routes, the costs and the order of steps for someone applying from Pakistan.

The Global Talent visa has two routes into the UK

You can apply if you are at least 18 and a leader or potential leader in academia or research, arts and culture, or digital technology. You then take either the prize route or the endorsement route. Most people take endorsement.

The prize route is a direct application for someone who has won an eligible prestigious prize. GOV.UK says the prize must be named on its official list. Other prizes from the same institutions do not count, and you must be the named winner.

The endorsement route is for everyone else. A body that judges your field must first approve you. GOV.UK has a separate page for each field, and we did not read those pages in full, so we do not name the bodies here.

Two routes to the UK Global Talent visa: prize route and endorsement route

Plan the cost before you start the endorsement

GOV.UK shows £766 for the standard application and £561 plus £205 when you need an approval letter first. Each partner or child pays £766. The health surcharge is usually £1,035 per year for each person.

ItemCost
Prize route, one application£766
Endorsement, first stage£561
Visa after endorsement, second stage£205
Each partner or child£766
Health surcharge, per person per yearUsually £1,035

We read the fee table dated 8 October 2026 on GOV.UK, and it matches these Global Talent fees, both outside and inside the UK. The health surcharge was not in that table. We took the £1,035 figure from the Global Talent page itself, which says "usually".

Add the surcharge for the whole stay when you plan your budget. For a 5 year visa that is a large sum. Our guide to the UK Skilled Worker visa from Pakistan shows how the same surcharge adds up on that route.

Follow the steps in the right order

Start with the endorsement, not the visa. Without the approval letter, an endorsement route applicant cannot apply for the visa. Prize winners go straight to the visa application, online.

  1. Confirm your field: academic research, arts and culture, or digital technology.
  2. Check whether you have won a prize on the GOV.UK eligible prize list.
  3. If not, read the GOV.UK endorsement page for your field and apply for endorsement.
  4. Pay the £561 endorsement fee and wait for the decision.
  5. Apply online for the visa and pay £205 if you have an approval letter.
  6. Prove your identity and provide your documents as asked.
Six steps from endorsement to visa application for the UK Global Talent visa

GOV.UK says a visa decision usually comes within 3 weeks when you apply from outside the UK, or 8 weeks from inside the UK. Faster decisions cost extra. That time covers only the visa stage. The endorsement takes its own time, and we did not see a figure for it.

Know how long you can stay and what comes after

A first visa can last up to 5 years. Renewals can be 1 to 5 years. Settlement, known as indefinite leave to remain, is possible after 3 to 5 years depending on your field and how you applied.

These timings change with UK policy, so check the page again when you apply. Pakistani graduates who want a shorter route can also read about the UK Graduate visa. Students planning a degree first should see the guide to the UK student visa from Pakistan.

Spot the claims that should make you walk away

No agent can sell an endorsement. The decision rests with the endorsing body and the Home Office. A "guaranteed Global Talent visa" is a red flag, especially one that asks for a large payment before any endorsement is filed.

Ask for the official fee table link and the endorsement reference. Read how to check a study abroad agent in Pakistan before you pay anyone. And keep every receipt.

Common questions about the UK Global Talent visa from Pakistan

Do I need a job offer?

The GOV.UK overview does not list a job offer as a requirement. You must show you are a leader or potential leader in your field.

Do I need an English test?

The page we read does not list an English test. Check the page for your exact route before you apply, because rules change.

Can my family come with me?

Partners and children can apply as dependants. Each pays £766 and the health surcharge.

How long does the visa take?

GOV.UK says usually 3 weeks from outside the UK and 8 weeks from inside. That is the visa stage only, not the endorsement.

Can I get settled in the UK on this visa?

Yes, possibly after 3 to 5 years, depending on your field and how you applied, according to the page.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 8 October 2026 on GOV.UK: the Global Talent visa page and eligibility page, and the Home Office fee table dated 8 October 2026. We did not read the endorsement pages for each field, so the endorsing bodies, their timelines and their criteria are not covered. The health surcharge amount comes from the Global Talent page and was not checked against the surcharge page.
