One tola of gold is 11.664 grams in Pakistan's sarafa market, so 10 grams is a little less than a tola, about 0.857 tola. A tola is also 12 masha, and a masha is 8 ratti, in the old weights that jewellers still use. The tables below convert every common weight both ways, put a rupee value on each at the 24 October 2026 rate, and show how to turn the world price per ounce into a tola price.

Getting this wrong is expensive. Plenty of people still treat a tola as 10 grams. At Rs 422,036 a tola, that mistake hides Rs 60,209 on a single tola, which is the gap between the tola rate and the 10 gram rate that same day.

One tola is 11.664 grams in the rates jewellers quote

Pakistan's daily gold rate is issued for both a tola and 10 grams, and the two figures always imply 11.664 grams to a tola. We checked three days in a row: 22, 23 and 24 October 2026 all divide out to 11.664 grams, to three decimal places.

For example, the 24 October rate was reported at Rs 422,036 a tola and Rs 361,827 for 10 grams. Divide the first by one tenth of the second and you get 11.664. The traditional definition behind the tola is 180 grains, which works out to 11.6638 grams, and the market rounds that to 11.664. We did not find a Pakistani statute that sets the tola in law, so the 11.664 figure here is the one the market itself uses.

Tola to grams for every common weight

Multiply the number of tola by 11.664 to get grams. Half a tola is 5.832 grams, 2.5 tola is 29.16 grams and 7.5 tola, the gold nisab used for zakat, is 87.48 grams. The rupee column uses the 24 karat rate of 24 October 2026.

These are metal values for pure 24 karat gold before any making charge. Most jewellery in Pakistan is 21 or 22 karat, so the value of a real bangle or ring is lower per tola. The way to price a piece, with making charges and tax, is in calculating the price of gold jewellery.

Grams to tola for jewellery and coins

Divide grams by 11.664 to get tola. A 1 gram coin is 0.0857 tola, an 8 gram chain is 0.686 tola and a 20 gram set is 1.715 tola. Imported jewellery, coins and bars are usually weighed in grams, so this is the direction you need when comparing a foreign receipt with a local rate.

Masha and ratti still show up on old receipts

A tola has 12 masha and each masha has 8 ratti, so one tola is 96 ratti. At 11.664 grams a tola, a masha is 0.972 grams and a ratti is about 0.1215 grams. You will mostly see these on older family receipts and in small adjustments to a piece.

A receipt that says "2 tola 3 masha 4 ratti" converts like this:

1. Turn the masha into tola: 3 divided by 12 is 0.25 tola.
2. Turn the ratti into tola: 4 divided by 96 is about 0.0417 tola.
3. Add them up: 2 plus 0.25 plus 0.0417 is 2.2917 tola.
4. Multiply by 11.664 to get grams: about 26.73 grams.
5. Multiply the tola figure by the rate for the right karat to value it.

At the 24 October rate, one masha of 24 karat gold is worth about Rs 35,170 and one ratti about Rs 4,396. Some jewellers use a slightly different ratti in practice, so if a weight matters, ask for it in grams on a digital scale.

How to turn the world price per ounce into a tola price

The world gold price is quoted in US dollars per troy ounce, and a troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, or about 2.667 tola. So one tola is 0.375 of an ounce. Multiply the dollar price by 0.375, then by the rupee rate, to get a rough tola value.

Here is that sum for Friday 23 October 2026. The world price was reported at $4,020 an ounce, and the State Bank of Pakistan's revaluation rate was Rs 276.8236 to the dollar. That gives about Rs 417,319 a tola. The local rate that day was Rs 424,536, about Rs 7,200 or 1.7 per cent higher.

That gap is normal. The local rate includes the cost of getting gold into the country and the market's own margin, and it does not move minute by minute like the world price. If you track the ounce price, expect the tola rate to follow it with a lag. The gold rate for 22 October shows the two falling together that week.

The same weights work for silver and for zakat

Silver is sold by the same tola, so every conversion above applies to it unchanged. The zakat nisab is set in tola: 7.5 tola of gold, which is 87.48 grams, or 52.5 tola of silver, which is 612.36 grams.
