Silver bangles and a brass weighing pan on a dark table, for a guide to the silver rate per tola in Pakistan

Short answer: Silver was reported at Rs 6,555 a tola on 10 October 2026, up Rs 43 on the day. That is about Rs 562 a gram. To value a piece, multiply its weight in grams by the day's rate per gram, then multiply by its purity: 0.925 for sterling silver, 0.999 for fine silver.

Someone clears out a cupboard and finds an old tea set, a few bangles and a set of anklets from a grandmother. The first question is always the same. What is it worth? The answer is a short sum, and you can do it at the kitchen table.

This guide gives the sum, a worked example and the points where a buyer can take a margin from you. Rates are the ones reported on 10 October 2026, the newest we could read on 12 October. Use the rate on the day you sell.

The reported silver rate is Rs 6,555 a tola, or about Rs 562 a gram

Silver was reported at Rs 6,555 per tola on 10 October, after a rise of Rs 43. Divide by 11.664 grams, the weight of one tola, to get about Rs 562 a gram, or Rs 5,620 for 10 grams.

The rate is shared each day by the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association, the same body that sets the gold rate. We could not read the association's own notice, so every figure here is reported. The report does not say what purity the rate is for, so assume the highest grade and confirm with the buyer.

Silver is a small number next to gold. Our gold rate report for 10 October has gold at Rs 442,036 a tola, which is about 67 times the silver rate.

Purity decides how much of the weight is silver

Pure silver is marked 999, meaning 99.9% silver. Sterling silver is 925, meaning 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metal, usually copper. Lower grades have less. Multiply the weight by the purity to get the weight of silver in the piece.

These are our arithmetic from the reported rate and are the value of the silver alone. They assume the rate applies to fine silver. If it is for a lower grade, the values drop in proportion.

Jewellery in Pakistan is often sold without a purity mark. Ask the seller to test it in front of you, and ask what grade the test shows. A piece with no mark is not necessarily poor silver, but you cannot prove its grade either.

A worked example: 50 grams of sterling silver

Take 50 grams of sterling silver anklets. Silver content is 50 x 0.925 = 46.25 grams. At about Rs 562 a gram, that is about Rs 25,990. That is the silver value before any buyer's deduction.

  1. Weigh the piece in grams on a scale you trust.
  2. Multiply the weight by the purity, for example 0.925.
  3. Multiply the silver weight by the rate per gram.
  4. Subtract stones, enamel or any parts that are not silver.
  5. Compare the buyer's offer with the result.
Steps to work out the value of silver jewellery in Pakistan

A buyer will offer less than this figure, because he pays for refining or resale and keeps a margin. Ask him to state the deduction as a rate per gram or as a percentage, so you can compare two buyers. A sensible offer is close to the silver value minus a clearly stated deduction.

Buying silver costs more than selling it

A retail piece is priced above the silver value because of making charges, stones, design and tax. Selling it back, the shop pays for the silver and often deducts the making charge. So the same piece can lose a large share of its price on the day you resell it.

The sales tax rule for jewellery names "precious metal" and does not mention gold alone, as our report on sales tax on buying gold sets out. Ask the jeweller which rate he charges you and ask for a proper invoice. If you buy silver as an investment, buy a bar or coin with a receipt and expect to sell at the rate less a margin.

The gold rate and the silver rate do not always move together. Our calculation guide on pricing gold jewellery by tola and karat shows the same sum for gold, with making charges.

Common questions

What is the silver rate in Pakistan per tola?

It was reported at Rs 6,555 on 10 October 2026, after a rise of Rs 43. The rate changes daily.

How many grams are in a tola of silver?

One tola is 11.664 grams, the same as for gold. So Rs 6,555 a tola is about Rs 562 a gram.

What does 925 mean on silver?

It means the metal is 92.5% silver. This is sterling silver, the usual grade for good jewellery and cutlery.

How do I know if my silver is real?

Look for a purity mark, then ask a jeweller to test it with acid or an electronic tester in front of you. A magnet only shows whether iron or steel is present. It does not prove purity.

Why do shops offer less than the silver rate?

They need a margin for refining or resale, and many deduct making charges. Ask for the deduction in writing and compare two buyers.
