Apple Pay in Pakistan: Not Available Yet, and What Works Instead

No. Apple Pay is not available in Pakistan. Apple's own list of countries and regions that support Apple Pay, published on 9 September 2026, names 101 places and Pakistan is not one of them. No Pakistani bank card can be added to Apple Wallet for payments today.

If you have an iPhone in Pakistan, you can still pay by tapping, just not with the phone. Many Pakistani debit and credit cards are contactless, and Android users can tap with a phone through Google Wallet or a bank app. Here is what works, what does not, and what Apple says about cards from abroad.

We read Apple's Apple Pay country page, its setup and payment pages, and its regional lists of participating banks on 30 September 2026. We did not try to add a Pakistani card to an iPhone, because Apple's list already rules it out.

Apple Pay is not on Apple's list for Pakistan

Apple lists 101 countries and regions where you can add cards from participating banks to Apple Pay. Pakistan is missing. So are India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, so there is no South Asian country on the list at all. Nearby Gulf countries are included.

Apple's page on countries and regions that support Apple Pay groups them by region. We checked each group for Pakistan.

Apple's list of payment methods for Apple Accounts also leaves Apple Pay out for Pakistan. That is why an Apple ID in Pakistan can only pay for apps with a card or a topped-up account balance.

Apple Cash, the person to person money feature, is a separate thing. Apple says it works only in the United States.

Why a Pakistani card will not go into Apple Wallet

Apple says you need "a supported card from a participating card issuer" to set up Apple Pay. A participating issuer is a bank that has signed up with Apple. No Pakistani bank appears on Apple's regional bank lists, so the Wallet app has nothing to accept.

Apple's setup page lists four needs: a compatible device on the latest software, a supported card from a participating issuer, an Apple Account signed in, and Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode. Most iPhone users in Pakistan meet three of them. The card is the one that fails.

Apple tells users to "contact your card issuer" to check if a card works. In Pakistan that call will not change the answer until a bank announces Apple Pay itself. Treat any shop, app or social media post offering to "activate Apple Pay" on a Pakistani card as a scam.

What works instead: contactless cards and Android tap to pay

The easiest tap to pay option in Pakistan is the card already in your wallet. Many banks issue contactless Visa and Mastercard cards. On Android, Google Wallet and some bank apps let you tap with the phone instead. iPhone users have only the card option.

• Contactless card: look for the wave symbol on the card and on the shop's machine. Bank Alfalah, for example, says a PIN is needed for local contactless payments above Rs 3,000.
• Google Wallet on Android: Google lists tap to pay as available in Pakistan, with cards from 12 banks and wallets. The phone needs NFC. See which Pakistani cards work with Google Wallet.
• Bank app tap to pay: some banks build it into their own app. Bank Alfalah's Tap & Pay page lists an NFC phone, Android, and an active Visa or Mastercard card as requirements.
• Raast and QR: to send money or pay a shop's QR code, Raast in your bank app does not need NFC at all.

The Android and iPhone gap is real. Bank Alfalah's tap to pay asks for Android, so an iPhone owner with a Pakistani card has no way to pay by phone today. The card is honestly just as fast.

Set up tap to pay on an Android phone in five steps

If you also carry an Android phone, you can tap to pay in Pakistan today. Turn on NFC, add a supported card in Google Wallet or your bank's app, and hold the unlocked phone near the card machine. The steps below follow Google's and Bank Alfalah's own instructions.

1. Open Settings and turn on NFC. Phones without NFC cannot tap to pay.
2. Check that your card is on Google's Pakistan list, or that your bank offers tap to pay in its app.
3. Add the card in Google Wallet, or in the bank app's card section, and confirm with the bank's code.
4. Set that app as the default for contactless payments when the phone asks.
5. Unlock the phone and hold its back near the machine until it confirms.

A foreign card in Apple Wallet, as Apple states it

Apple's rule is about where the card comes from, not where you stand. A card from a participating bank in a listed country, such as the UAE or the UK, can go into Apple Wallet. Apple says Apple Pay is accepted wherever the contactless symbol appears.

So a visitor, or a Pakistani living abroad who comes home, may be able to tap an iPhone with a Dubai or London bank card at a contactless machine in Lahore or Karachi. Apple does not name Pakistan either way. We did not test it, and three things are outside Apple's control:

• Your bank decides whether its card works abroad and may block a foreign payment until you confirm it.
• The shop's machine must accept contactless Visa or Mastercard.
• Your bank will usually charge a foreign currency fee on every rupee payment.

Apple Pay inside apps and websites follows the same rule. A foreign card may work at a merchant that offers Apple Pay.

Keep your card safe while you wait

Until Apple adds Pakistan, the safety advice is about the plastic card and the Android phone. Keep contactless limits low, lock the phone, and block a lost card from the bank app straight away. Never share a card's one-time code with anyone who calls you.

Some bank apps let you switch off online or international use, then turn it back on when needed. If a card is lost, block the card first and ask questions later. On Android, keep a screen lock on any phone that holds a card, as Bank Alfalah lists a device security lock among its requirements.

Is Apple Pay available in Pakistan in 2026?

No. Apple's country and region list, dated 9 September 2026, does not include Pakistan, and no Pakistani bank is on Apple's participating bank lists.

Can I add my HBL, Meezan or UBL card to Apple Wallet?

No, not for Apple Pay. Apple needs a card from a participating issuer, and no Pakistani bank is one. You can still add the card to your Apple Account to buy apps.

What is the best way to tap to pay with an iPhone in Pakistan?

When will Apple Pay launch in Pakistan?

Apple has not announced a date. A launch would show on Apple's country page and in a Pakistani bank's own announcement. Treat any other claim as unconfirmed.
