How to Apply for BridgeStart Pakistan: Global Gateway or Direct, and Which Suits Your Startup
BridgeStart Pakistan helps startups join foreign accelerators. Compare the Global Gateway and Direct routes, the eligibility rules and the five minute pitch.

BridgeStart Pakistan helps Pakistani startups join foreign accelerators in two ways. Global Gateway matches you with a partner accelerator and pays for the programme, travel and stay. Direct pays back costs if you already won a place on your own. Your startup must be under 10 years old and operate in Pakistan. You pitch to an expert committee for five minutes.
We read the BridgeStart Pakistan, Global Gateway and Direct pages on Ignite's own website on 14 October 2026. Ignite runs BridgeStart for the Ministry of IT and Telecom. The pages give no rupee or dollar amounts and no closing date, so we give none. We have not applied.
BridgeStart has two routes to a foreign accelerator
An accelerator is a short programme where mentors and investors help a young company grow fast. BridgeStart Pakistan offers two routes. Global Gateway matches you with an accelerator partner. Direct reimburses your costs after you win a place yourself.
The choice is simple. If you have never been picked by a foreign accelerator, Global Gateway is meant for you. Its page says it opens the door "without requiring prior admission". If you already hold an acceptance letter, use Direct.
| Point | Global Gateway | Direct |
|---|---|---|
| Foreign admission needed first | No | Yes, to a recognised accelerator or incubator |
| How it helps | Matches you with a partner accelerator | Reimburses or sponsors costs of your own place |
| Costs covered | Programme fees, travel, accommodation and related costs | Costs already paid, plus pre-departure and programme sponsorship |
| Startup age | Under 10 years | Under 10 years |
| Earlier BridgeStart funding | Not eligible | Not eligible |

Check the eligibility rules before you apply
Both routes want a startup that works in Pakistan, is under 10 years old and has not been funded by BridgeStart before. Founders must take part in the international programme. Direct also needs a confirmed place in a recognised foreign programme.
Global Gateway adds a sector note. Ignite says priority goes to tech-driven, sustainability-led or impact-oriented startups, with examples such as climate-tech, health-tech, AI and fintech. Both pages encourage female-founded, climate-tech and sustainability-led startups to apply.
For Direct, the sponsorship rules ask for an innovative, scalable business model, and founders must pitch and show dedication and ability to finish the programme. Ignite also wants the startup to add to Pakistan's economic growth, visibility and knowledge transfer.
Global Gateway has its own selection path. You apply on the BridgeStart website and pick the Global Gateway option. The Expert Committee scores innovation, scalability, impact potential and founder capability. Ignite then matches you with a partner accelerator and guides you on travel and funding support.
The Direct route has five steps
First win a place at a recognised foreign accelerator or incubator. Then fill in the Google Form application, email your documents to Ignite, pitch to the Expert Committee and wait for notice.
- Win admission to a recognised international incubator or accelerator.
- Complete the Google Form application on the BridgeStart Direct page.
- Download the documents checklist from that page and email the papers to bridgestart@ignite.org.pk.
- Pitch to the Expert Committee for five minutes, then answer its questions.
- Wait for notice of selection and guidance on the benefits.

If you have not yet built a business, the guide to applying to a National Incubation Center covers an earlier stage. For the money side of a foreign visit, the steps to open a business bank account in Pakistan show the documents banks ask for.
Prepare a five minute pitch
Direct gives you five minutes, split by topic: 120 seconds for the business and model, 30 seconds each for traction, future plans, the founder and funding, and 60 seconds for the accelerator programme and what it gives you. Questions follow.
Ignite lists these timings on the Direct page. Global Gateway uses a similar plan: 2 minutes on business and model, 30 seconds each on traction, expansion plans and founder profile, and 60 seconds on your goal for acceleration. Shortlisted startups are invited to pitch.
Practise out loud with a timer. Your traction figures should be real numbers: sales, users or partners. The committee questions you after the pitch, so know your numbers. One practical tip from us, not from Ignite: write the 30 second parts as one sentence each.

Common questions about BridgeStart Pakistan
Who runs BridgeStart Pakistan?
It is an initiative of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, executed by Ignite, the National Technology Fund.
Do I need a foreign accelerator place before I apply?
Only for Direct. Global Gateway is built for startups that have never been selected, and it matches you with a partner accelerator.
How much money does BridgeStart give?
The pages we read give no amount. Global Gateway says it covers programme fees, travel, accommodation and related expenses. Direct reimburses eligible costs already paid and may sponsor costs before and during the programme.
Is there a closing date?
We found no closing date on the three pages. Check the pages and the application form before you plan around a date.
Can a startup funded earlier by BridgeStart apply again?
No. Both pages say startups already funded by BridgeStart's earlier track are not eligible.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 14 October 2026. All rules, steps and pitch timings come from Ignite's BridgeStart Pakistan page, Global Gateway page and Direct page, read on 14 October 2026. We did not read the document checklist PDF, so we cannot list the papers. We found no grant amount, closing date or decision time. Confirm them with Ignite before you spend money on a foreign programme.
