Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) lends up to Rs 2.5 million per borrower for dairy and livestock farming under its Dairy Value Chain scheme. You repay in half-yearly instalments over 5 years, after a 6 month grace period. You apply at a ZTBL branch with your CNIC, land record and two photographs.

The bank introduced the scheme after a decision of the State Bank's agricultural credit advisory committee, to meet the needs of dairy farmers. It says women borrowers are especially encouraged. We read the scheme page on ZTBL's own website on 14 October 2026. The terms below come from it. The page shows no markup percentage, so we quote none.

The Dairy Value Chain loan covers dairy and livestock farming up to Rs 2.5 million

The loan limit is Rs 2.5 million per borrower or party. It is meant for creditworthy rural residents who work in dairy or livestock farming. Existing ZTBL borrowers with a good repayment record who know the activity can also be considered.

The word "value chain" means the whole path from animal to market, not only buying a cow. The page speaks of dairy and livestock farming in general. It does not list what you may buy, so ask the branch whether your plan, for example animals, a shed or milking equipment, fits.

The markup is "the prevailing rate on development loans", and the cost of credit is as per the bank's rules. Ask for the exact rate in writing. The size of farm lending nationally is set out in the farm loan lender figures.

The ZTBL Dairy Value Chain loan limit of Rs 2.5 million per borrower in Pakistan

You invest 10 percent of the project cost, or the amount above Rs 2.5 million

The page sets your equity in two cases. If the project costs less than Rs 2.5 million, you invest 10 per cent of the project cost. If it costs more, you invest everything above the Rs 2.5 million the bank will lend.

Our example from those rules: a Rs 2,000,000 project needs Rs 200,000 from you. A Rs 3,000,000 project needs Rs 500,000 from you. Both sums are our arithmetic, not figures the bank published.

Equity means your own money in the project. Plan it before you visit the branch. Many dairy plans fail on cash for feed in the first months, so keep a reserve apart from the equity.

Five years to repay, with a six month grace period

You repay within 5 years in half-yearly instalments, and the first six months are a grace period. Disbursement goes into your current account after the legal documents are signed. That is two payments a year, not monthly ones.

Key terms of the ZTBL Dairy Value Chain loan in Pakistan: limit, tenor, grace period and equity

Security is your own property, or a relative's as co-applicant

The bank asks for tangible property that you own as security. If you do not have any, the page says a parent's or family member's property can be accepted, with that person as a co-applicant. You must also insure the assets created with the loan.

A co-applicant shares responsibility for the loan, so talk to your family first and read the legal documents before anyone signs. The page lists the papers as a CNIC copy, the loan application, an agricultural passbook (called Fard Jamabandi in some places) and two recent photographs.

Apply at a ZTBL branch and expect a head office sanction

Take your papers to the nearest branch. The Credit Review Department at head office sanctions the loan. Branch staff then monitor how you use it, and the page says the bank's credit officer checks within one month of disbursement.

  1. Write a project plan: animals, shed, feed, expected milk and who will buy it.
  2. Work out the total cost and your equity share.
  3. Collect the CNIC copy, passbook or Fard Jamabandi and two photographs.
  4. Submit the application at a ZTBL branch and ask for the markup in writing.
  5. Arrange security, and a co-applicant if needed.
  6. Sign the legal documents, insure the assets and receive the money in your current account.
Steps to apply for the ZTBL Dairy Value Chain loan at a branch in Pakistan

The bank's helpline is 051-111-30-30-30, as shown on ZTBL's home page. For the size of the national herd you will be competing in, the 2024 census livestock figures give the count of cattle and goats.

Common questions about the ZTBL Dairy Value Chain loan

How much can I borrow for a dairy farm from ZTBL?

Up to Rs 2.5 million per borrower or party. Projects that cost more need you to pay the difference.

Is there a special offer for women?

The page says women borrowers are especially encouraged. It lists no separate rate or limit for them, so ask the branch what that means in practice.

What is the markup rate?

The prevailing rate on development loans applies. No percentage appears on the page, so ask your branch for the current figure in writing.

Can I apply without owning property?

Yes, in some cases. The page says a parent's or family member's property can be accepted, and that person joins as co-applicant.

When do I pay the first instalment?

After a 6 month grace period. Instalments are then half-yearly over 5 years.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 14 October 2026. All terms come from ZTBL's own page, Financing Scheme for Dairy Value Chain, and the helpline from the ZTBL home page. We did not apply for this loan and saw no markup percentage. The bank can change terms at any time, so confirm them at a branch before you commit.
