The weekly figures moved faster still. PBS's weekly sheet put the bag at Rs 2,976.12 in the week to 22 October, as shown in the weekly flour price for 22 October. The monthly figure is lower because it averages all of October's weeks. The government has also set a wheat support price of Rs 4,500 per 40 kg for the next crop.
How to check whether your shop's atta price is fair
Compare the price on your bag with the PBS figure for your city. A gap of a few hundred rupees can be normal for a branded bag. A much bigger gap is worth reporting to your district price control officer.
- Note the weight on the bag, since some shops sell 10 kg or 15 kg bags.
- Divide the price by the weight to get the price per kilo.
- Compare it with the per kilo figure for your city in the table above.
- For the latest week, open the PBS weekly SPI sheet, which lists the 20 kg bag in each city.
- If the price is far above both, complain to the price control office of your district administration.
