Pakistan hosts the Billie Jean King Cup in Islamabad from 19 to 25 October 2026, the first time the country has staged the women's team tennis event. Ten Asian teams are reported to take part. Two ITF W15 women's tournaments in Islamabad, which began on 5 October, serve as the warm-up.

Tennis rarely gets a week of front pages in Pakistan. This October it might. The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has put two international events in the same city in the space of three weeks, and both are for women.

Pakistan hosts the Billie Jean King Cup from 19 to 25 October

The Billie Jean King Cup is the world's main team event in women's tennis. Countries send squads, and results decide who moves up or down. Pakistan's turn to host comes in Islamabad from 19 to 25 October, with ten Asian nations reported in the field.

The event used to be called the Fed Cup. It was renamed in 2020 after Billie Jean King, the American player who campaigned for equal pay in tennis. This is the first time Pakistan has hosted it.

We have not read the draw or the group list on an official page. The ITF and the PTF websites did not give us a readable schedule on 8 October, so the number of teams and the dates here are as reported by the press and as announced by the PTF.

Two ITF W15 tournaments in Islamabad began on 5 October

The PTF announced two back-to-back ITF W15 women's tournaments in Islamabad, starting on 5 October. Each has a prize purse of 15,000 US dollars. It is the first time Pakistan has held two such events in a row for women.

W15 means a 15,000 dollar event. It is the first rung of the professional women's tour. Players who win matches earn world ranking points, and those points help them enter bigger events later.

PTF president Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi said the events let Pakistan's top women compete internationally without heavy travel costs. He also said they help the team prepare for the Billie Jean King Cup.

Pakistan's women players have a rare home stage

The PTF named several players who are expected to gain from the home events: Ushna Suhail, Mahin Aftab, Soha Ali, Romaisa Malik, Bismal Zia, Meheq Khokhar, Zunaisha Noor, Zainab Ali Raja, Fatima Ali Raja and Laibah Durab.

It did not say who will make the final Billie Jean King Cup team. Selection for the team event is the PTF's decision, and we have not seen a squad announcement.

For these players, a home event matters for plain reasons. Flights, hotels and entry fees abroad cost a lot, and ranking points are hard to earn without playing. A tournament at home removes the biggest costs.

What fans still need to find out

Ticket rules, venue entry and broadcast plans for the Billie Jean King Cup have not been published on any page we could read. We will not guess them. Here is what to watch for, in order:

  1. The PTF announcement of the exact venue inside Islamabad.
  2. The official draw and the list of ten teams.
  3. Whether entry is free or ticketed, and how to book.
  4. Any road or security notice for match days.
  5. The Pakistan team named for the event.

Match days in Islamabad often bring road changes. Our latest note on Islamabad and Rawalpindi roads shows how closures are announced, and the same sources will apply for tennis days.

Pakistan also had a strong Asian Games in other sports this autumn. See the final medal tally of 10 medals. Tennis was not part of that list, which makes a home event of this size more notable.

Why this event matters beyond the scores

Hosting a team event puts Pakistan on the ITF's list of reliable hosts. That helps get more events later. It also gives young girls a chance to watch international players in their own city.

The result on court is secondary. A first-time host in a ten-team field will be happy to compete well. Still, home crowds and familiar courts are a real advantage, and Pakistan's players know their own surface best.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 8 October 2026. The dates, host city, number of teams and the quote from Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi come from the PTF announcements as reported in the press. We could not open an official ITF or PTF schedule page that day, so the second W15 date, the venue and the team list are marked as not confirmed. The note on the cup's old name is general sports knowledge, not read from an official page today. We will update this page once the draw is out.
