BISE Lahore is moving to On-Screen Marking (OSM) for intermediate papers, starting with four subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and Statistics. The board announced it in a letter dated 7 October 2026 and posted it on its website on 8 October. Mandatory training workshops for examiners, principals, heads of department and students run across Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib from 12 to 31 October 2026.

On-Screen Marking means answer sheets are scanned, and examiners mark the scanned pages on a computer instead of a paper copy. We read the board's letter No. 512-RCO/BISE LHR and its training schedule on 10 October 2026. The letter says the move follows directions from the Punjab Minister for Education. The training schedule also names the Chief Minister's Task Force on Examination Reforms.

BISE Lahore picks four intermediate subjects for on-screen marking

The first four subjects are Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and Statistics, all at intermediate level. The board says it is moving towards OSM "this year", and calls these four the initial subjects.

Matric papers and other intermediate subjects are not in this first step. The letter does not say which exam will be the first marked on screen. The next intermediate exam is the second annual exam that starts on 3 November 2026. After that, the class 11 students now waiting for the Punjab 11th class result sit the first annual exam of 2027.

What the letter of 7 October 2026 says

The Research and Coordination Officer of BISE Lahore, Ejaz Ahmad, sent the letter to the Director Colleges for Lahore Division and to the chief executive officers and deputy directors of colleges in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib.

  1. BISE Lahore is moving to On-Screen Marking, on the directions of the Punjab Minister for Education.
  2. The board's Staff Training and Development Centre has set district-wise awareness seminars and training workshops.
  3. Attendance is mandatory for head examiners, sub-examiners, principals, heads of department and students of the four subjects.
  4. Each institute sends nine people: the principal, plus the head of department and one student for each of the four subjects.
  5. Attendance will be shared with higher authorities. For private colleges affiliated with the board, absence goes to the affiliation branch "for taking action".

The letter is copied to the Education Minister's office, the Chairman of the CM Task Force on Examination Reforms, both Directors of Public Instruction in Punjab, and the BISE Lahore chairman, secretary and controller of examinations.

BISE Lahore on-screen marking training schedule from 12 to 31 October 2026 across Lahore division

One date is unclear. The signed letter puts Pattoki on Wednesday 14 October and one private college group on Thursday 29 October. The board's social media version of the same schedule swaps them, with Pattoki on 29 October. That version also labels every date as September 2026, which is clearly a slip, since the weekdays match October. Colleges in Pattoki should confirm with the board on 042-99200159 or 0321-4564948. The board also says anyone who misses their slot can attend in any other district.

What on-screen marking changes for students

For students, the paper you sit does not change. The change is behind the scenes, in how your answer sheet is checked after the exam.

Under paper marking, examiners take bundles of answer books and mark them by hand. Under OSM, the board scans each answer book, and examiners mark the scanned pages on screen. The board has set aside a training day for its scanning section, which shows that scanning is part of the plan. Federal Board (FBISE) already lists e-marking of exams among its systems on its own website.

How on-screen marking works at BISE Lahore: answer books scanned, then marked on screen by examiners

The letter does not say how rechecking will work for OSM papers, or whether scanned copies will be shown to students. If your college picks you as the student participant for one of the four subjects, go. You will hear the system explained by the board before it marks your own paper. Students repeating a failed paper in the Punjab inter second annual exam should watch the board website, since that is the next intermediate sitting.
