Short answer: Dial 1122 from any mobile or landline in Sindh to ask for a free ambulance from Sindh Integrated Emergency and Health Services (SIEHS). The service says it runs 24 hours a day, covers all 30 districts, and charges nothing. Give your location first, then say what happened and whether the patient is awake and breathing.

A man collapses in a shop in Hyderabad. The family argues about whether to put him in a rickshaw or call someone. That minute of argument is the one that costs the most. In Sindh, the number to call is four digits long.

We read the SIEHS website, siehs.org, on 12 October 2026, including its 1122 page, its FAQ and its article on what happens after you call. Everything below comes from those pages unless we say otherwise. We did not place a test call, and we have no data on response times, because SIEHS does not publish an average on those pages.

Dial 1122 and you are connected to a dispatch centre

SIEHS says the call goes to a central Command and Control Centre, where a trained call taker asks scripted questions. The ambulance is dispatched while you are still on the line. You do not need to register, pay or show a card.

SIEHS describes itself as a not-for-profit organisation backed by the Government of Sindh. Its 1122 service has 627 or more ambulances and 38 stations, it says, and covers the national and provincial highways as well as district headquarters. It says the service is ISO 9001:2015 certified.

Note that 1122 also exists in other provinces, run by different bodies. Our guide on what Rescue 1122 does in Pakistan explains the difference. This page is only about the Sindh service.

Say your location first, then what happened

The dispatcher needs three things quickly: where you are, what happened, and whether the patient is conscious and breathing. SIEHS says its call takers ask exactly these questions and may give you instructions, such as how to press on a bleeding wound, while the crew is on the way.

  1. Dial 1122 and stay on the line.
  2. Give the exact place: city, area, street, and a nearby landmark.
  3. Say what happened, in a few words: road accident, chest pain, labour, fall.
  4. Say whether the patient is awake and breathing.
  5. Give a phone number that will stay with you, and do what the call taker says.
  6. Send someone to the road or gate to wave the crew in.

The service is free and covers all 30 districts

SIEHS says its ambulance service is free of charge, with no insurance requirement and no paperwork. It lists 30 districts, from Karachi to Kashmore. We could not find a published list of exceptions, so if a driver asks you for money, ask for the SIEHS office number below.

Call 1123 first when it is not a life-threatening emergency

SIEHS runs a second line, 1123, called Tele-Tabeeb. It is a free doctor on the phone. SIEHS says that if you are unsure whether you need an ambulance, call 1123 first and the doctor will tell you if 1122 is needed. For chest pain, heavy bleeding or a road accident, call 1122 directly.

Which number to dial in Sindh: 1122 for life-threatening cases, 1123 for advice or when unsure

We describe that line in calling Tele-Tabeeb 1123 for a free doctor. Keep both numbers saved on every phone in the house, including the one your parents use.

Where the ambulance takes the patient

SIEHS says its ambulances are linked to major government and private hospitals, and that the crew gives the hospital a handover on arrival. The crew gives first aid on the way. SIEHS does not publish a rule on how the hospital is chosen, so we cannot tell you who decides.

For a heart patient in Karachi, our guide on free heart treatment in Sindh covers the NICVD emergency number. If you want a particular hospital, say so to the dispatcher at the start and ask whether the crew can take the patient there.

If you are charged or treated badly, there is a route after the event. See how to complain against a hospital or doctor in Sindh for hospital issues, and write to SIEHS for ambulance issues.

SIEHS office contacts for follow up

For anything that is not an emergency, SIEHS lists (021) 111 111 823 and info@siehs.org, with office hours from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Its office is in PECHS Block 6, Karachi. It also has a grievance and complaints policy document on its site.

Edhi and Chhipa are separate, charity-run services with their own numbers, covered in Edhi and Chhipa ambulance numbers. A full list of helplines is in emergency and helpline numbers in Pakistan.

Common questions

Is the 1122 ambulance really free in Sindh?

Yes, SIEHS says the service is free of charge, with no insurance requirement. We have not placed a call to test it, and the charge for a private ambulance is a separate matter.

Which districts does SIEHS 1122 cover?

SIEHS says it covers 30 districts in Sindh, from Karachi to Kashmore, including the main highways. We could not find a district by district list on its pages.

What should I say when I call 1122?

Give your exact location first, then what happened, then whether the patient is awake and breathing. Stay on the line and follow the instructions, because the crew is often sent while you talk.

Can I call 1122 from a landline?

Yes. SIEHS says to dial 1122 from any mobile or landline. In Sindh the call is answered by a central dispatch centre, and it is free to dial.

What is the difference between 1122 and 1123?

1122 sends an ambulance for life-threatening cases. 1123 is a free telephone doctor, for advice and mental health support. If unsure, SIEHS says to call 1123 first.

How do I complain about an ambulance service?

Call the SIEHS office on (021) 111 111 823 from Monday to Friday, or email info@siehs.org. Keep the time of the call and the ambulance number if you have it.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the SIEHS home page, its 1122 page, its Tele-Tabeeb page and its article on what happens when you call 1122 on 12 October 2026, at siehs.org. The service figures on those pages, such as 627 ambulances, are SIEHS's own and can change. We did not verify response times.
