Cancel a Prime Rail Train Ticket in Pakistan: 10% to 50% Deducted, Against 10% to 30% on Pakistan Railways

Prime Rail deducts 10%, 25% or 50% when you cancel a standard train ticket, against 10% to 30% on Pakistan Railways. See your refund on a Rs 4,900 fare.

Short answer: Prime Rail, the private company reported to take over Karakoram Express bookings from 30 October 2026, deducts 10 per cent if you cancel a standard ticket more than 48 hours before departure, 25 per cent between 24 and 48 hours, and 50 per cent inside 24 hours. Pakistan Railways deducts 10, 20 and 30 per cent on its own e-tickets. So a late cancellation costs more on Prime Rail.

We read Prime Rail's refund policy on its website on 20 October 2026, and the Pakistan Railways terms page the same day. This page sets the two side by side, works out what you get back on a real fare, and lists the steps to cancel. The background to the handover is in our report on Karakoram Express bookings moving to Prime Rail.

Prime Rail deducts 10 to 50 per cent on a standard ticket

Prime Rail's refund policy splits tickets into Standard and Premium. On a standard ticket it deducts 10 per cent at 48 hours or more before departure, 25 per cent between 24 and 48 hours, and 50 per cent in the last 24 hours. Refunds go back to the card or wallet you paid with.

The policy says refunds take 5 to 7 business days. It also says standard tickets "must be canceled at least 24 hours before departure", and that no-shows are generally not refunded. If you simply do not turn up, expect nothing back.

Prime Rail refund deductions for standard and premium tickets by hours before departure

Premium tickets get a full refund 48 hours ahead

A premium ticket on Prime Rail is fully refunded if you cancel 48 hours or more before departure. Between 24 and 48 hours, 10 per cent is deducted. Inside 24 hours, 25 per cent is deducted. Premium tickets can be cancelled up to 2 hours before the train leaves.

The catch is that Prime Rail's policy does not say which classes count as premium. Its FAQ names four classes: Economy, Business, Executive and Sleeper. It would be reasonable to guess that economy is standard, but that is a guess. Ask before you pay, and screenshot the answer.

Pakistan Railways deducts 10 to 30 per cent on an e-ticket

Pakistan Railways' terms page deducts 10 per cent of the paid amount if you cancel more than 48 hours before departure, 20 per cent between 48 and 24 hours, and 30 per cent inside 24 hours. You cannot cancel once the guard chart is printed, usually 2 hours before departure.

The railway also has a rule Prime Rail's page does not mention. If a train is cancelled or runs more than 6 hours late, Pakistan Railways makes no deduction. You write an application, get it signed by the station master and send it to the Chief Commercial Manager's office. More on the railway's side is in cancelling a Pakistan Railways e-ticket.

A Rs 4,900 ticket returns Rs 2,450 to Rs 4,410 on Prime Rail

Take Rs 4,900, the Karakoram Express economy fare from Karachi Cantt to Lahore when we checked Pakistan Railways fares on 27 September 2026. Prime Rail has not published its own fares, so this is only an example. On a standard ticket you get back Rs 4,410, Rs 3,675 or Rs 2,450.

Under 24 hoursRs 2,450Rs 3,675Rs 3,430

The difference is largest at the last minute. Cancel a standard Prime Rail ticket the night before and you lose Rs 2,450. The same cancellation on a railway e-ticket would cost Rs 1,470. If your plans are shaky, decide two days out, not one.

How to cancel a Prime Rail ticket

Prime Rail's FAQ says you cancel or reschedule from the "My Trips" section of your account, up to the cutoff in its refund policy. The money goes back to the payment method you used. Follow these steps and keep a record of each one.

  1. Log in to your Prime Rail account on the website or app.
  2. Open "My Trips" and choose the booking you want to cancel.
  3. Check how many hours remain before departure, so you know which deduction applies.
  4. Confirm the cancellation and screenshot the screen that shows the refund amount.
  5. Wait 5 to 7 business days and check the card, bank or wallet you paid from.
  6. If nothing arrives, write to Prime Rail support with your booking number and screenshots.
Steps to cancel a Prime Rail train ticket and get a refund

Prime Rail's policy leaves three questions open

Three things were missing from Prime Rail's pages on 20 October 2026. It does not say which classes are premium. It says standard tickets must be cancelled 24 hours ahead, yet also lists a 50 per cent deduction inside 24 hours. And it gives no rule for a cancelled or very late train.

The website also showed no phone number and an empty registered address line, though it says support runs 24 hours a day. None of this means the refund will not come. It does mean you should keep every screenshot. If you booked through Pakistan Railways before the handover, the railway's own rules and complaint lines are your route.

Common questions about Prime Rail refunds

How much does Prime Rail deduct if I cancel 3 days before?

10 per cent on a standard ticket, and nothing on a premium ticket, according to Prime Rail's refund policy read on 20 October 2026.

How long does a Prime Rail refund take?

The policy says 5 to 7 business days, paid back to the original payment method.

Do I get anything back if I miss the train?

Generally no. Prime Rail says no-shows are not eligible for a refund unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Is Prime Rail stricter than Pakistan Railways?

Inside 48 hours, yes, for standard tickets: 25 and 50 per cent against the railway's 20 and 30 per cent. More than 48 hours ahead, both take 10 per cent.

Which Prime Rail classes are premium?

The policy does not say. Its FAQ lists Economy, Business, Executive and Sleeper. Ask before you book.

What if my train is cancelled?

Prime Rail's page has no rule for this. Pakistan Railways gives a refund with no deduction for a cancelled train or a delay of more than 6 hours, on application.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 20 October 2026. Prime Rail's deductions, the 5 to 7 day timeline, the no-show rule and the My Trips steps come from its refund policy and FAQ, read on 20 October 2026. Pakistan Railways' deductions, the guard chart rule and the late train rule come from the Pakistan Railways terms page, read the same day. The Rs 4,900 fare is from our own fare check on 27 September 2026, and every refund figure is our arithmetic. We did not make a booking or a cancellation, so we have not seen Prime Rail's cancel screen ourselves.
